Some of the more rural areas, really have no choice but to get their dvd's at Wal-mart or Sams Club. One of my friends lives in Oklahoma where they only have Wal-marts for like 30 miles. Plus she doesn't like buying anything online, so that doesn't leave alot of choices. It's your opinion not to shop at these places, but many people have no choice.

At my local Walmart they gave "Bewitched Season One" a cardboard box with about 12 compartments and only 2 of the compartments are marked for black and white. My guess is that the stores think that they will sell more colorized versions than B&W.

http://moviecash.com/locatorUS.php worth up to $7.50, I got Bewitched B/W by the way. I prefer it cause that's the way I remember them.

Thanks for the link. The theatre selection for MovieCash seems to be a lot better than the ones for the vouchers that came with Predator.

I think your subject heading is slightly misleading...

Anyway, didn't they go to color in season two? If that's the case, then at least we don't have to worry about sales for B/W vs. Color influencing any second season release. Of course, they might influence other Sony releases with similar situations....

$23.31 at DDD, and it is in stock. Reading this thread I decided to jump on the set. Oh my aching wallet!

I wonder if it'll come with the free ticket to the feature film that opens tomorrow? ;)

Steve Phillips 06-23-05 09:51 AM

No, "Bewitched" was not shot in color until Season 3.

However, colorized masters of the second season (and also the first season of "I Dream of Jeannie") are already complete and have aired on TV around the world. There is little doubt that the dual B/W and color release will be the case for these as well....

Just be glad the B/W versions are on the market at all; at least the consumer has a choice.

Egon's Ghost 06-23-05 10:43 AM

Geez, my point is, I expect that they would only carry the colorised version (or have fewer copies of the b/w, if at all) and full-screen versions of other DVDs (same case with the widescreen version). Eh, nevermind.

madara 06-23-05 01:13 PM

Cant be too hard to find. Apparently some online rental places actually only stock B&W version, much to distress of some.

calhoun07 07-04-05 01:19 PM

I just checked amazon.com's sales ranks for the two sets....

The color set comes in at #91

The black and white comes in at #35.

I was glad to see that, considering it seemed as if amazon.com was pushing the color set in their email promos.

Ordered the B&W from DDD with no problems during the big sale.

Don't understand the need to buy from B&M when the better prices and selection are nearly always found online. Haven't bought a DVD in a B&M for about a year now, with no regrets.

Ha! Ya, get one from DDD, but just make sure THEY send you the right one!

A friend of mine bought the color one at Best Buy last week. He was looking for the B/W one, but since BB apparently doesn't carry the B/W in-store, he just went ahead and bought the color one. He got a scolding from me pronto and agreed to return it unopened and get the B/W one somewhere else.

Believe it or not, he doesn't have a computer (!) so I said I would order it for him on-line since I was already placing a HUGE order during the big DDD sale. So I ordered the B/W version - clearly indicated on the order and the inventory receipt in the package that arrived - and, you guessed it, they sent the COLOR one instead.

It seems like a conspiracy to push this color version on people at every level. I bet the B/W version will be discontinued a lot sooner than the color one, too. I guess fans should be happy that Sony released it in B/W to begin with, but retailers sure aren't making it that easy to get ahold of.

nightwing82 07-04-05 06:07 PM

I couldn't find the B&W at Wal-mart, Circuit City, or Target and there was no space for them. They both had the colored version. So I had to order the B&W from Amazon.

Ted Turner needs to feel justified for existing.

My local Tower did not stock any color copies, only black and white, which is good news to me.

The reason B&W may be higher is because you can't find it in stores...therefore, it may actually be selling less...

The B&W set has been ranked higher on Amazon ever since it went up for preorder, long before the release date and word got out that it was harder to find in stores.

Received in good order, the correct B&W one, as purchased. Couldn't be happier!

Wannabe 07-06-05 02:29 AM

I saw clips of the colorized version vs the original b&w -- I thought the colorized looked pretty damn good. I'm surprised at how many people are getting their panties in a bunch with regards to buying the "correct" version. For pete's sake, it's not Citizen Kane. It's a silly sit-com from the 60's! Have you seen the color version? Don't knock it until you've seen it.

I'm an "original" kind of guy... original aspect ratio, original audio, original composition, original color... but I actually bought the colorized version of Bewitched. Why? I was curious to see what the latest colorizing technology looks like. I was quite impressed. It was enjoyable to watch and not distracting at all.

I know colorized shows aren't good for me, but neither are Big Macs, fried onion rings, and Jamocha shakes.

As long as I don't make any of them a habit, I'll be OK.

Oh, one question I had that was never answered... is the B/W version the true B/W version or is it a further tweaking of the colorized master? ie. did they take the colorized version and do a "greyscale" conversion to get the B/W? (similar to a film or two that were theatrically presented in widescreen, pan-n-scanned for video and then further chopped to create the widescreen video release)

Keep buying all of the silly sitcoms from the the '60s in colorized versions and it won't be long before things like Citizen Kane come out that way, too.

Amen. Agreed 100%.

Fox is already distributing colorized abominations of everything from the 3 Stooges to Shirley Temple to Sherlock Holmes. Granted, they're just the distributor, but why a major studio that should know better is doing this is beyond me.

I thought we had killed off the Turnerization fad back in the 80s. The fact that colorization is making a comeback of sorts should be troubling to all consumers. In my opinion, colorization is no different than pan & scan, editing for content, time compression, or anything else that destroys the original look of the product.

ken_572002 07-07-05 04:48 AM

My local Sams Club had around 10 copies of the color version, and zero copies of the B&W version....sorry, no sale.

forumsmy 07-09-05 10:15 PM

Barnes and Noble are carrying the B&W versions -- they had them out in front in their DVD--music section.

Cameron 07-09-05 11:34 PM

i never have understood why they didn't just take the 3 stooges route and have a feature to toggle back and forth using the camera angle button...I guess they figured you could just adjust your set to B&W...

boo for color bewitched
