No insert = automatic bootleg?

Not every DVD comes with the almighty precious insert.
|
The movie Saved! didn't come with one.
|
Take that back U sunofabitch!!!!!!111
If a DVD doesn't come with an insert, it means that it automatically is not a DVD. I don't know what the hell you've been watching, but it's no "DVD" that i've ever heard of. |
I've bought brand new seald dvds in the past from places like whsmith and wooley's and a couple of them havent had an insert

Most movies as of late have been released without the addition of any sort of insert.
Sign of the times. Or, something like that... |
It doesn't mean they are bootlegs. Some of the dvds that are made in Mexico, one of the main offenders is Paramount, most of their older catalog dvds have no inserts when they originally did. All the major studios, with their catalog titles, are pressing these dvds and fail to issue an insert to the customer.
I think studios should print inserts for all their dvds, it's only fair. Though, now alot of older catalog dvds that once carried inserts, no longer are issued with them. I am just assuming this is a decision by the studio. Alot of newer Warner catalog titles are always missing inserts. Your Rocky dvd is not a bootleg! |
It is commonplace, alot of MGM catalog titles have no inserts when they once did. The studios just don't care to print it and add it. You can always try Blockbuster and see if one of their rental copys has an insert, and ask if they will give you it, they may or may not do it.

Buying a used DVD without an insert (when it originally had one) does not bug me unless its 'more then an insert' (i.e. 4 page booklet on the movie, bla bla bla)
|
There's a lot of ways to tell bootlegs apart. Missing insert isn't one of them. Look on the cover to see if it's photocopied quality. Bar codes?
|
Inserts are now a relic from the past. Nowadays if your DVD doesn't come with a neat-o slipcover that duplicates the keepcase cover, it's probably a bootleg!
|
All Warner discs no longer have inserts. Damn shame.
|
I saw something worse than no insert in a DVD recently....a freaking advertisement. It had nothing to do with the movie it was packaged with, it was just an advertisement for some other crap. If studios start shilling out advertising space in their DVDs, that should bring down the cost of these even more.

lots of movies dont come with inserts anymore
|
The following "majors" no longer include inserts with most releases...
MGM Paramount Warner Brothers Universal Lion's Gate If I've forgotten one, post it up. |
Criterions always come with an insert.

As for the original post, that remastered Rocky was released recently, right? No insert is to be expected. Now, if it actually had one, it could have been a bootleg. |

Yes. The Last Samurai and Matrix whatever immediately come to mind as WB DVDs that were issued in keepcases and included inserts. Now, apparently, a slipcase <i>with the exact same image as the DVD cover</i> is more important to WB than a simple insert with a chapter list. |
If the DVD was made in Mexico and has no insert then it is a bootleg.
There is a law with NAFTA that says that bootleg DVDs made in Mexico are not allowed to have a copy of the original insert. They are required to instead have a sheet of paper the size of a normal insert and printed on it in bold size 12 Arial font "This DVD is a bootleg". I don't have a copy of this, but I am sure that one of the pirate members here can put up an image of it. Now it has recently been catching on in Mexico that they can sell more DVDs if they don't include what NAFTA calls "The Bootleg Insert". Simply put, if you ever buy a dvd from anywhere and it has no insert, then it is a bootleg from Mexico. FYI: Target is a major player in the Mexican bootleg scene. I recently purchased a DVD with no insert or even "The Bootleg Insert". I took it back to customer service and yelled at the girl that it was a bootleg which she kept denying. I managed to make her cry but was unable to break her into admitting her and Target's involvment in the black market. I am unable to enter any Target store because I am too close to the truth. |

Funny how on one hand they try to discourage bootlegs and other illegal and cheap means of obtaining movies, yet they make their own packaging comparable to bootlegs. |
The studios actually print inserts for all DVDs but dispose of them in the dumpster behind Blockbuster.

The good thing about X-rated porn DVDs is that they always come with inserts.
