FOX-Please release a 65mm transfer of CLEOPATRA ON DVD.

FOX has released a number of their TODD-AO productions onto dvd from 65mm sources, but CLEOPATRA is not one of them. I would to see a new transfer with its correct aspect ratio of 2:20. I would also like to see this done with MY FAIR LADY- DOCTOR DOLITTLE and AIRPORT.

In addition to what you said. Apparently there was something like 5-6 hour director's cut version of Cleopatra, but that was never released and FOX has yet to find all the missing footage. So here's hoping they release that version in the proper aspect ratio you specified on the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray format.

There was a time that I was considering picking up the 5-Star edition, but never did because I kept reading about this so-called 5-6 hour cut.

I 've been intrested in picking this movie up but just haven't gotten around to it. Or should I just wait for the 5-6 hour release?

BUYER BEWARE!!!

I just finally bought mine, and wouldn't ya know it...

The included booklet has a pocket cut into it that contains Disc 3 (the extras disc), and it's all scratched to Hell. Not a wise move for 20 Century to put it in there unprotected.

...and my Disc 1 (that has its own seperate compartment) has these "eyelash" lookin' scratches on it.

They play well and all, but could they make these discs any softer if they tried?

Take notice how they screw up the intermission. The opening music for the second half of the film is at the end of disc one, but the picture itself is on the second disc. Bad way to present a "roadshow" film.

My disc 3 was also scratched all to Hell. It froze and skipped about thirty minutes into the documentary.

larry: Don't get me started!

I believe this kinda stuff dates back to the days of Laserdiscs.

If I didn't know better, I'd think they actually hire people with bad attitudes to purposefully look (with passion) for a crappy place to put the side-breaks...JUST TO PISS US OFF!!!

( )

fryinpan: Oh man, fp.

I hate hearin' about stuff like that.

When did you buy it? Is it too late to return it?

Mine plays fine, but it looks like shat, and I hear those disc repair kits leave swirl marks on your discs...

(Hey! Why don't you both check out the Other Forum here at DVD Talk? We desperately need some New Talent! )

Just for the record, I also think the layer change freeze location in THE SOUND OF MUSIC hurts the fine editing this picture had. Maybe it will be relocated when the new edition comes out in November.

Slightly off topic, but I recently picked up a new copy of the Cleopatra:5 Star Collection DVD at a local supermarket for $6.99. I haven't finished watching the movie (or the extras) but the picture and sound are very pleasing. I didn't see any scratches on my discs. Great price for this 3 disc set. I wasn't aware of the problem with the intermission music. Was this ever corrected in later pressings of the discs?

Did I accidently make a wrong turn into the other forum? What's TEK doing wandering around the DVD area. I thought you only purchased laserdiscs.

Another thing to check for with the Cleopatra DVD is the missing exit music at the end of the movie. If the movie fades to black and there is no music then you have the defective DVD. Fox was issuing replacements that have the music inserted. All you have to do is call Fox and they will send you the updated disc free. Last time I checked about a year ago they were still doing it. The phone number can be found in the following thread in the store forum.

Well, mine doesn't have the exit music, and it's not such a big deal to me (as the rest plays fine), but I'll give 'em a call anyway.

Thanks, LM!

Where's your Cleopatra smilie? Looks like you save all the good stuff for the other forum, while you neglect us poor souls on this side of DVDTalk with your vast array of smilies.

Hey!

It's more TuT-ish, but here ya go!:

BTW: I called Fox, talked to an "Alma" (at the distrubution location), and she said she knew all about the exit music thing, AND that she'd replace the entire disc set if I sent her my copy with a letter of instructions of what's wrong and what I want!

She said she'd even open the New factory-sealed set to make sure she sent me one without any scratches!

How cool is that?

Thanks again, LM!

Gosh TEK do I have to do everything for you today.

Actually I was hoping for a picture of Cleopatra.

Your smilie looks more like King Tut.

Or King Tut?

Oh well at least Fox came through big today. That was mighty cool of them.

Looks like the king is dead.

Was that enough smilies?
