It's just The Evil of Frankenstein and Curse of the Werewolf AFAIK. Brides of Dracula was on the June schedule but was yanked at some point. Don't see any new Hammer in July. |
I will be gettibg this also, I can't wait for Brides of Dracula. I've been wanting this for a long time now
|
With this and Dracula 1972 (coming out 9/9/05), we will finally have the full Hammer/Dracula cycle of films available on DVD:
Horror Of Dracula 1958 ~ Warner Brides Of Dracula 1960 ~ Universal Dracula, Prince Of Darkness 1966 ~ Anchor Bay Dracula Has Risen From The Grave 1968 ~ Warner Taste The Blood Of Dracula 1969 ~ Warner Scars Of Dracula 1970 ~ Anchor Bay Dracula - A.D. 1972 ~ Warner Satanic Rites Of Dracula 1973 ~ Anchor Bay BobB |
So will Brides of Dracula be in the box set or not? Some people say yes others say no. If it is no I may have to think about getting this, if it's yes it will be a no brainer pick up as Brides is the one that I want.
|
Every spec says it is...why do you doubt it will be included?

Brides of Dracula Curse of the Werewolf Evil of Frankenstein Kiss of the Vampire Night Creatures Nightmare Paranoiac Phantom of the Opera I've yet to read anyone say this list is wrong. It will not be a boxed set but rather a 2 double-sided DVD set. Each DVD will likley have 2 films on each side of the disk. That leaves plenty of room on each side of each disk to accomodate a high quality finished product. BobB |
I read somewhere that Brides was pulled from the set. I thought it was from this thread but looking back through it , it wasn't from here. So I can get excited now because Brides of Dracula will be there.

Curse of the Werewolf, finally!
:rock2: |
This one is going to look real nice next to the Classic Universal Horror sets. Can't wait.

I'll probably be keeping mine with the rest of my Hammer movies.
|
I'll probably just put mine on the shelf wherever.

Just finished watching Brides of Dracula, and it looks excellent. Sampled Curse of the Werewolf, and it looked good as well. Borders has this on sale for $22.99, for anyone wanting an instant fix. If you can slip a coupon by the clerk like I did, you can get an even better deal.

Before you get too excited by this release, note that it's on the dreaded Universal DVD-18 discs....
And, judging by the comments in other forums, these discs are causing just as many playback problems as Universal's other DVD-18 discs. The same goes for the Bela Lugosi Collection. I find it totally bizarre that Universal persist in doing whatever they've been doing before, because nearly every one of these releases (Columbo, The Munsters, Abbott and Costello, the Horror Legacy sets to name a few) has caused problems for at the very least a sizeable minority of players. The symptoms are picture freezing, chapter skipping, pixellation, refusal to access certain chapters on a variety of players - and seemingly at different points on the disc. In this set, though, Curse of the Werewolf and Evil of Frankenstein seem specially prone to trouble. And you have to watch them right through, in real time; scanning at high speed or chapter sampling doesn't always reveal the trouble. Some folks have been able to exchange and get "good" discs. One of the sets (Columbo I think) had such a high return rate that Amazon will not ship replacements, pending their "investigation" apparently. You have been warned. If only Universal would forget making these expensive to manufacture, error-laden DVD-18's and use DVD-9's like most sensible studios do. The extra disc and packing costs would easily be made up by the much lower return rate! |

Satanic Rites Of Dracula 1973 ~ Anchor Bay BobB AFAIK the rights have now gone to Blue Underground who apparently "have no plans" to re-issue the Hammer titles. The film is apparently public domain in the USA, so there are several inferior versions to be had. It has never been issued in the UK, but hopefuly Warner (who seem to hold the rights to many of the Hammers) will release it here...they have issued many of the AB released Hammers, such as Frankenstein Created Woman in the UK. |

Usually the problems occur at different times on different sets. Sometimes it is the same place though. Different problems at different times points to a manufacturing fault, and not an authoring fault.

Why aren't people posting the exact spot where the errors occur so that others can check their own discs? But the problem varies - so either, it's the same for every disc but the effect varies from player to player or (more likely) it's manufacture problems. This is supported by the fact that peopl ehave been able to exchange their discs and get ones that played perfectly... You have to watch the films through in real time, because a fast scan or chapter picking will often skip right over a troublespot such as a brief freeze-up, pixellation etc so quickly you don't see it. |
I ended up sending my Columbo set to Universal in hopes of a quality replacement. I finally got Abbott and Costello sets that worked though so I will take a shot with the Hammer and Lugosi sets. However, I'm buying them at local stores to make the return easier. The tough thing is rewatching 8 different movies over and over to try and find the defects. Its nearly impossible to find that much time.

I'm IN-patiently waiting for my Hammer set from Amazon that I haven't gotten yet. They just shipped it today so hopefully in the next few days i'll have it, i'm pulling my hair out every minute waiting for this.
|
Haven't watched my Hammer set yet (just got it yesterday) but an irate friend just called me and said CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF (for him, the most anticipated film in the set) freezes about 45 minutes or so into the movie.
