Along similar lines, I was considering buying the Mission Impossible DVD. But I had aquired the LD in a large lot so I decided to just watch it one day and see if I "really" needed the DVD. This is an AC-3 release on LD and though the visual was a little rough, it was not overly distracting (and thats on a 57 inch 16x9 HDTV). The sound though blew me away, I got into LD after DVD came out so I really never thought much about enjoying the LD more than the DVD - I was mainly getting titles not out on DVD. Needless to say I did not bother buying the DVD. I would put that LD's sound up against any DVD in my collection (yes I have big collection with lots of action movies and DTS). The sound was so enthralling to me I almost watched the movie again and I watched all the credits just to hear the music. Needless to say, I actually find myself watching LD maybe once every week of so, usually in bunches since I have to change several settings on the HT.
