I doubt there will ever be a non-enhanced THX-1138 on dvd, and IMO there's really no need for it. Unlike the "controversy" of Who Shot First, all the changes done to THX serve merely to polish the film. They're good changes.

I definitely think this is a valid question, needlessly poo-pooed by Mr. Lowrey. Concerning THX-1138, regardless of one's opinion of the changes, it is STILL a messed-with film and not the 1971 original. I will keep my Star Wars OT boxset AND my LD DVD rips until an official release, which will never be, so...
The fact that so many bloody VHS titles haven't been released on DVD validates this question.

Have you checked non region 1 dvds? I suggest that is the route you should take first. I know there are some titles released elsewhere but not here. I found "Rapa Nui" on Amazon's German site. A movie that hasn't found it's way on DVD here even though it's a US film.

Of course, that's also an expensive route, usually. But definitely recommended, if you have a region-free player or region-free software.

Les not forget THE MONSTER SQUAD!!!!

I have been waiting for this beast to be released legit. Only available routes are VHS and Laserdisc and I refuse to buy a LD player and LD just for one movie so I guess I am SOL.

I like the changes too...but it's still not the original, so therefore, I'll keep the tape. I should say, I like all the changes except the dumb little cgi monkeybrats and really, I could have done without the masterbator. If I had both versions on dvd...it would still be the original that got spun the most.

I've got a handful of VHS left that have yet to see DVD as of yet but I expect most of them to. Tape is such a fragile medium, and the fewer of them I have in house the better in my opinion. One useful tool is a standalone DVD recorder in this case, at least for titles that are able to be transferred from tape to disc, as well as for shows that make it to TCM and the likes once every blue moon. It held me over with DVD versions of McQ, Last Stand At Saber River, and Hoffa until their official DVD releases this year, and afforded me a watchable copy of Miracle Of The Bells until it finds it's way to DVD . Not cleaan and crisp with great sound or lines of resolution in this make do way, but watchable so you can toss the tapes!

Thanks for all the help, I've added more than a few titles from various lists.

The African Queen

Real shame this classic is not available on DVD (unless of course you want a crappy bootleg).

I have about 50 VHS tapes, mostly of cheapie Sword & Sorcery and Post Apocalyptic flicks, for which I have a morbid facination.

Beastmaster 2 & 3
Throne of Fire
Wizards of the Lost Kingdom 1 & 2 (Some of the best bad movies ever!)
Time Barbarian
The Invicible Barbarians
Wizards of the Demon Sword
Revenge of the Barbarians
Radioactive Dreams (Albert Pyun's 2nd best movie ever!)
Warriors of the Wasteland
Warriors of the Apocalypse
The Last Warriors
Maniac Warriors
The Ultimate Warrior (Yul Brynner!)

...and so on. You know, pretty much anything with the words "Wizard", "Warrior", "Apocalypse", or "Barbarian" in it.

I really only have one tape though that I couldn't do without and that is my Yellowbeard tape.
