Bosom Buddies?
Tom Hanks is such a huge Hollywood icon, I'm surprised this series isn't out on DVD yet. In fact, I've never even heard it mentioned for possible release. Anyone know if and when it could be available?
|
I asked the same thing myself in another thread just last week.
|
Never heard of it, but it screams 'gay'.

For those who truly aren't familar with the show, think Some Like It Hot done in the style of Three's Company.

That description pretty much nails it! This was a great sitcom with a wonderful cast, and one of my favs - let's hope that it eventually shows up! |
Paramount did mention this title last year as being in the works. Haven't heard anything since though.

Still no release date :( but TVShowsOnDVD.com has posted the cover art for Season 1! It's too bad they're not releasing both seasons together; I really hope we don't have to wait another three years -eek- for Season 2...

There were only two seasons? :hscratch:
|
|
Lame. We waited all this time and the least they could have done is release a series set.
|
Donna Dixon lived around 10 miles from me way back when. She sure did fall off the map the last 10 years or so.
:beer2: |
We have a release date! March 13, 2007

The question is....did they get the rights to the Billy Joel song or not? I have to say, without the opening theme song, it's not going to be the same.
|
YES!
In the past few weeks several of my "most wanted" movies were announced (<i>The Gang's All Here, Never Give A Sucker an Even Break, Apartment Zero</i> and now this! I'm a happy camper. (No pun intended -wink-) |
Oh hell yes.
Now I can get rid of my decaying videotapes... :) |
I'm not too crazy about the cover art but as long as we are getting the complete episodes, I'm okay about it.

I don't care if Peter Scolari and Telma Hopkins team up to sing the theme- I'm just glad it's finally coming out on DVD.
I so look forward to revisiting that show. |

This is still one of my favorite sitcoms and I have my fingers crossed that nothing gets screwed up, considering how ridiculous the music liscensing issue has gotten. It's been almost 25 years since I've seen these episodes without syndication cuts, and I'm crossing my fingers for no music-related cuts. |

This kind of thing should be democratic. Paramount should post on their website how much the set would cost if they put money up for the Billy Joel song and how much it would be without (and warn us what would replace it) and let the fans vote. Hell, it's OUR money that's going into this thing in the end when we buy it.
And, of course, I could go into my usual rant about the music industry and the RIAA and all that but what's the point anymore? And I used to watch it when it was first run and in syndication...I never recall any other theme than the Billy Joel song. WTF are they talking about what was "intended" to be the theme? |
Billy has a lot of Hamptons area car repair bills and drunk driving legal fees to pay and don't forget that agent that took all his money, plus the alimony to Christie. You can't expect him just let this series be released without getting some bread in his jar can ya?

Thanks! |
I don't care what song plays over the opening credits; I skip them anyway. I am concerned about the other cuts, but I'm hoping they're just minimal, and stuff I won't miss. I'm still looking forward to finally having this on DVD.

I don't know if any music has been changed apart from "My Life." Possibly, but I didn't spot it. Most of the episodes appear to be uncut (there's one episode that runs a minute shorter than the others but I don't know if anything was cut from it or if it just ran short). According to the review at Sitcoms Online, the theme song situation is complicated by the fact that "Shake Me Loose" was intended to be the show's theme song (if only because the creator of the show wrote the song: naturally he wanted royalties). ABC didn't like it and replaced it with the Billy Joel song. Then the two songs alternated in syndication. |

I was in a deli near me about a year ago, and I heard someone behind me talking to his kids, and I said half joking said to my friend "that's Peter Scolari" and he looks over my shoulder and says "it IS Peter Scolari!"
Sure enough I turned around and it was him! |

Realize that they had some hack singing Billy's song when the show originally ran (it was definitely NOT sung by Billy Joel).

Sure enough I turned around and it was him! He had a diamond stud in his ear ... which made him look really cool. :) And no, I didnt ask for his autograph. I just asked if he used to be Peter Scolari and if he hates Tom Hanks. |

Why could Paramount get the other songs but not "Day-O?" Does it really cost that much? |
On the version that ran on TBS, Ruth starts singing right after they play Twister, around the 10:45 mark, almost 2 minutes before the commercial fade. Maybe check again, as it seems like an odd portion to cut out.

Not only for the song but for the line "I was quite the bohemian at Vassar," which is a great line that I couldn't find in that scene.
