So you are complaining that you are replacing old unwatched movies with newer, better unwatched movies?
Just sounds like you're a neurotic.

Why buy stuff again that you've yet to open and watch? Having been on the forum for years I know alot of buyers are buying just to be buying something, they are pretties on a shelf and not movies to be watched over and over again- they're shiny toys. The completist metality. Problem is it's a controlled market and you will never have a complete library because more movies will get more editions. If the release is a great OAR print with 5.1/ DTS sound, I'm happy with what I have and won't replace something unless it's some movie that is in my top 10 or 20 favorites of all time. Movies that looked like garbage in their original release I can see replacing. Alot of double dips tout added commentaries and the like but when you look at the fine print, the commentaries are by people you weren't even aware were involved in making the movie. So, I guess if you need to replace your entire collection now, won't you need to do so over and over and over again, even if you go out and do so tomorrow?

I am satisfied with the movie only and sound. Of course it has to be the best edition in terms of picture quality. Im a huge image guru. If the SE has the same image I dont bother. I dont care about extras either. I dont even watch them at all. I love the movie only thats all i care for. Why would I want to know how Keanu got from one block to the other on wires? C'mon.

I have stopped buying regular movies untill I catch up with ones I need to watch. Its a vicoius cycle but by waiting you can wait until the movie is on sale for like $10 or less or see if a better version is planned.

For me it would depend on what the extra material is.
If its been remastered, had deleted scenes added or enhaced sound track I probably would.
If its just a "making of", "trailers",or "interviews" probably not.

I will say this though-if it weren't for these double dips, there are times I would have nothing new to buy, like this summer for instance. After Million Dollar Baby, there's... well, I can't think of anything other than maybe Sin City. So naturally they have to get me by putting out nice new editions of:
Sling Blade
Swimming With Sharks
Stripes
Jaws
Casino
American Psycho
Face/Off
The Jerk
Ghostbusters
My Left Foot
The Truman Show
Gladiator
The Blues Brothers
Now, several of those I don't have because I was waiting for a good edition, and of the ones I do have the current edition of, I bought them 4-6 years ago. So, it's not so bad, but I can't help but think they plan this to keep me and maybe others spending money throughout the year. You know, all the good stuff from theaters from last year other than MDB is out, and hardly anything I like gets released in theaters until the summer (so the DVDs won't show up until the fall or later), so they have to plug the gap with re-releases.

I'm so sick that I even replace dvds that I "have not watched" that are still sealed with the new version that I probally wont watch hehe...When does this madness end?

If true, then you are your own problem. If you continue to rebuy every new edition that comes out, then it only makes sense that the studios are going to keep releasing them. You're trapped in the cycle that you helped create. Try some self-restraint.

I don't really see anything being a problem. You should know what to upgrade and what to wait on by now. Have the entire collection suffer delamination and deal with all the oop's....then you have a real problem. So you have to upgrade faves in the library...no big deal.
Still not much of a problem.
All this unease in the dvd world....and my only problem is trying to slow down on having a ten-a-week-orgy, something I've done now for years.
Big head cover art
No inserts
Double-triple-quadruple dipping
Snappercases
Locktabs
FBI logos
Except for a few cases of delamination and disc-hubs that are too tight and stiff, I don't see anything on that list worth stressing about.
And I've watched everything in my library....many things more than twice. Key Largo alone has been spun around 20 times. Nothing is sitting sealed, except a few dupes of a limited release or something, or say a huge order just arrived via the big brown truck(x-mas once a week). Out of almost 2,000 titles, thats not bad. Even with a busy work schedule like mine, I still have a life, run a company and watch films. It's all just a time management thing, yes?
Some titles sit for a few years, hell, what if it sat there 4 years! Is it going to waste? Do I not love it? Will it explode if not used soon?. For me it's a library...not just a collection. Big difference.
Wait til the HD discs come up

I have done pretty damn good on rarely double dipping.
Now I had just bought Airplane! about a month ago after meaning to pick it up for years.
The only way I would buy the new SE is if and only if,the dvd contains the original mono mix and deleted scenes.
I bought The Warriors a couple years ago and am happy with it. It looks and sounds great, which is all I really need. But if the new release includes the deleted scenes. I might consider picking it up. Though it better retain the original mono track as well! If it is 5.1 only,I'd be less likely to pick it up.
I have the 100% bare bones edition of Footloose and am happy with just the movie. I still have'nt picked up the SE and am not sure if I ever will. I love the film...but that is the point...the film is most important too me.
A couple dvds I definitely need to upgrade without a doubt sometime are The Thing(16.9) and Born on the Fourth of July(16.9 + improved transfer I'm sure..the old release looks awful!).
Meanwhile I have the single disc edition of Dawn of the Dead, and have'nt bought the Ultimate Edition yet. Despite being my all time favorite film. I've been putting that version off. I might get it eventually since it looks interesting and I'd love to see the documentaries and alternate versions.
So basically,I've done pretty damn good with barely any double dipping in my 200+ dvd collection. + the point is to be happy with what you have!
Also not feeling the need to showoff your collection to feel big and 'prove' yourself helps as well. If someone compliments my collection,or taktes interest in the diverse selection. That is great,if they don't do either, that is fine as well. I could care less what other people think of the films I enjoy/own
So I never feel I 'must' buy a certain dvd release because 'everyones gonna buy it!' or "it'll look awesome on my shelf and be great to show off to the world and rub in peoples faces!".
