Many companies go after "pirates" even if they are only kids or poor college students. They do this to establish a precedent and protect themselves from possible problems in future court cases.

Like if a legitmate big time pirate were busted his laywer could argue that the company knowingly allowed kids and poor college students to pirate their material for years and did nothing about it so why should my client be singled out.
