Best DVD of May 2005

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
Hoop Dreams. I'd waited and waited for this film to get a release...nearly 3 years of waiting. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get news that Criterion has picked it up. I've never in my life been as excited about a DVD release. Add to that the fact that the transfer and all is top notch, and I've got a really exciting commentary track to look forward to with Agee and Gates (plus all of the Siskel and Ebert clips)...makes my vote a no-brainer.

DVD Talk Gold Edition
"Jules and Jim" (followed closely by the near barebones "Phantom of Liberty" <-I just love that film).
This criticism may seem odd considering I voted for two other Criterions, but does "The Life Aquatic" image only look yucky on my display? After one gorgeous transfer after another, I was truly disappointed by Criterion's work on this disc (or did the lame folk over at Buena Vista do the transfer?).

Rock and Rule needs to be on that poll. It may be an obscure animated movie, but Unearthed Films' lavish treatment of it deserves a mention (it didn't get DVDTalk's Collector series for nothing).
