Batman Animated Series question...future releases ?
Has anyone heard anything about future animated Batman releases beyond the latest vol. 3 disc set like Gotham Knights (24 episodes) or Batman Beyond (52 Episodes) ?
Thanks ! |
They better release them. I heard the season sets are seling well, so i don't see why they wouldn't

Volume 4 will likely hit stores right around the same time Batman Begins hits DVD. |
What is Gotham Knights? I've never even heard of it.

After seeing this thread I went over an episode guide for the series and it seems that the fourth and final season of this show is very short. I wonder why they just didn't tack the other episodes onto this set.
I guess they could always throw some other great material onto the last set and I'd be happy as well. They could add Batman: Mask of the Phantasm to the set and I'd be happy, very very surprised, but also very happy. I'll never forget the day I bought the VHS of that movie. I was on a band trip and convinced the 60+ people on my charter bus that it was worth watching so the bus driver put it on. Everyone else pretty much hated it and my girlfriend was embarrassed that I would enjoy something like that. Such fond memories. |
These releases are not "season sets" they are just "production order" volumes. Vol. 4 will arrive when Batman Begins arrives on DVD in the fall for the Christmas holiday season.

Gotham Knights was when they redesigned a lot of the characters and introduced Nightwing and tim as robin.
"THE BATMAN" is coming out soon, they damn well better get Beyond on dvd and start up season sets for Justice League. |
What is Gotham Knights? |

How does Gotham Knights compare story-wise/quality-wise to BTAS? Would it be a must-buy for fans of BTAS? |
I for one also hope they continue with the sets. I have a book by the guys who did Batman the Animated Series and the episodes with Tim and Nightwing that came afterwards with the new design have episode numbers that continue from the Animated Series and do not start again from 1 so they should be considered part of this series. Also WHY does Warner always have to bring out these dumb 3 episode volumes before they do season sets?! So far I have had to deal with this with South Park, Friends, Batman the Animated Series and now The Batman! It is so frustrating!

If it is just "Gotham Knights", I actually preferred that to the original. As mentioned previously, they introduced the new Robin and Dick became Nightwing and Batman's costume was redesigned (no circle on the bat, blue became black). http://www.tvtome.com/images/shows/5/4/20-7470.jpg |
Someone mentioned how TAS was in production order...what would be the ideal order to watch this series? Is there any continuing storyline in these at all?
|
Well, for those who haven't quite figured it out yet, Gotham Knights or The New Adventures of Batman and Robin, was a retooling of such that took place at the same time Superman: TAS started, and thus shared its animation style with the Superman series.

There’s one episode in Gotham Knights I really really want to see that I think is called “Legends Of The Dark Knight”. It’s kind of a Rashomon type story where some kids each tell about how they've seen Batman and in each kid’s tale Batman is animated differently. In one of the sequences he is drawn like Frank Miller’s Batman in Dark Knight Returns with the female Robin and the whole works !

fitprod I just thought that each set, while in production order, also ended up being a full season of the show but that they just opted to go with Volume instead of Season. Oh well. I certainly will finish collecting TAS and anything past that I'll check out on Netflix before committing to. |

fitprod My volume 3 arrived today from Amazon, and on the back cover of the box it says that this collection represents "The Final 28 episodes of the series." So it is unlikely that a "volume 4" of BTAS will be coming. Instead, it will probably have a completely different title. |

There seem to be some confusion on this. All the episodes of Batman TAS are now on DVD in the 3 volumes, they did it in volumes becuse as you can see below it wouldn't work to put them in seasons.

So it is unlikely that a "volume 4" of BTAS will be coming. Instead, it will probably have a completely different title. See this link for more info: http://www.batman-superman.com/batman/index.html Totally different animation style. It'd be like including the new "The Batman" episodes with the "Batman TAS" episodes. I can see Gotham Knights being released as its own 4-disc set. |
I think it's pretty obvious that they're not in a strict chronological order since Robin appears pretty early on, then disappears completely, if I remember correctly.

K I think Robin was supposed to be away at college at certain times. As far as Gotham Nights gos, i love it but i prefer the original style. Especially what they did to the Joker's look in Gotham Nights. |
