They get points for doing something unique with each Speed Racer release. I can't walk past season 2 without pushing the button for the theme music

Agreed, not as cool as the first two, but still cool enough for me!

Not going to fit next to my other Speed Racers but will look nice next to my Total Recall.

Speed Racer Vol 3 Packaging - Total Recall is an UNDERSTATEMENT!

Have you guys seen the packaging for this??

I went to Wal Mart eager to pick up Vol 3 of Speed Racer and they bring me this DVD with HORRIBLE PACKAGING! It's exactly like the total recall tin except this one is a bit worse. When he gave me the dvd I noticed that the DVD was abviously loose. You can shake the package and you can hear the dvd being knocked around.....may as well be a baby rattle.

The DVD tin is airtight! I had to pry that thing apart for over 30 secs!(I didnt want the dvd to fly out if I used too much force). When I got it open the disc was only supported by a paper thin sponge to prevent the dvd surface from getting scratched....other than that there is nothing else in there to keep it from being damaged.

Worst packaging ever IMO.

Can't wait for someone to make their own custom art for this. FHE was on a good roll too with the other 2 volumes....The Tire Rubber Cover, Then the flashing lights with theme song slipcase....then they just had to screw it all up with this.

Sorry for the rant....I am just a huge Speed Racer fan and I just feel the series deserves the best treatment. What were they thinking????

a-hem !
now that it's out we need to complain somemore.
well for now, I'm just putting it in a back up keepcase, with another seasons slip cover over it.

anyway how is the DVD?
haven't seen a review in miles..

Instead of gimmicky boxes, I'd rather see extras on the DVD itself. Peter Fernandez and Corrine Orr are both still alive, why didn't they interview them and let them do some commentaries on a few episodes? Collector's Edition my foot!

I don't care for gimmicky packages, tins, etc. Never have, never will. I'm a huge Speed Racer fan myself and all I care about are the episodes themselves. Extras are just that... extras. If this set is up to the same quality standards of the first 2, then I'll be extremely delighted.

I don't care for gimmicky cases in general but the tire case was cool. This one, on the other hand, sucks.

I have the original LE Boxed set that Speed Racer released signed by Peter with all the certificates and extras....the extras on those discs are really good.

But so far the past 2 volumes have blown the LE boxed set out of the water in terms of picture and sound.

The new Artisan/FHE releases have much better color and definition. Amazing they have done this much with the eps .....for a series so old I won't complain.

I'll watch it tonight and do a short review on it soon

I was so happy to see vol 3 out that the packaging didn't even phase me. What kind of release schedule is going on, once a year?

Only 1 volume is left, and should be out next year. It will complete the collection's 52 original episodes.

I hate those tin can packaging. It's gonna look out of place next to the previous 2 volumes. Perhaps I should wait for the limited batch to run out and be replaced by regular keepcase.

I couldn't agree more...The Total Recall tin is one of two commercial DVDs I own...the other being the "spineless" E.T....which I've considered replacing the original packaging with keep cases and custom covers.

Well,

I watched a few eps today and overall it's not bad. I think the first two discs had a cleaner picture but I'll have to do a comparison later. Not bad though.

Still beats the LE Boxed set from SpeedRacer.com

Just one more volume to go!

Is it just me, or is this release really badly organised in terms of episode counts? 11 episodes, then 12, then 14, then 15? I dread to think what the compression's gonna be like with 15 episodes on one disc o_O

Maybe the final DVD can be double-sided so the quality will look better. Who knows, maybe they can throw in a few extras too, like the old Speed Racer Volkswagon commercial, or the new Speed Racer GEICO commercial. It would also be great if they could get Peter Fernandez and Corrine Orr to do a commentary or two and maybe a small interview segment.
