I know this out of R1, but my DVD 1 of the 2-disc UK Manhunter cracked around the center hole immediately; a piece of the top layer has broken off. I've emailed Momentum Pictures but haven't heard anything yet...how long should I wait before sending a follow-up email? It's been a week.

Has anyone else had problems with cracking around the hole?

Dreamworks Innocence (Ghost In the Shell II) exchange went remarkably well.

ADV Films didn't even require that I return one defective disc of theirs and had one out within a couple of weeks upon my intial contact. Great customer service with those guys.

This thread prompted me to contact Disney about my copy of Lilo and Stitch that has developed DVD-rot. When I played it for the first time in a year or so, I noticed a hazy spot in the middle of the disc. No scratches, always in the case, etc. I've had this with cd's in the past, but never a DVD. Anyway, the picture pixellated and froze when it got to that part of the disc. Called Disney customer service here: link and they are now sending a return envelope and will replace it for free! Sweet!!! What a great forum!

I sent the box set in, never heard back, but did receive a new box set a few weeks later.
They sent you a brand new shrinkwrapped box set?

Yep, I was pretty impressed, especially since I didn't have a receipt or anything.

Anchor Bay is very cool. I was missing a booklet from the original Beastmaster disc and when I wrote to them, they sent me a whole new DVD.

my black hawk down superbit seems to have become warped. I watch it once in a while. and all the sudden it seems to have a dent in it. since this disc is OOP I probably have no luck getting a new one from sony right? but since it does not work, what should I do about sending it?

ADV made me send in my defective Farscape discs, it's been a month and I haven't heard a peep yet.

In the new Volume 4 Bond set, I have 2 Disc 2's of Moonraker. I contacted Fox to just replace that disc, but they want me to send in the whole damn set. Yeah, that makes sense.

Buena Vista exchanged two discs (twice) from the Spiderman '67 Collection that were scratched from the plant. On the first exchange attempt, they sent me replacement discs that looked as scratched as the ones I had mailed in. I called again, politely explained what had happened and they sent me replacements again after I returned the scratched ones. Big props to Buena Vista.

Yeah, Fox customer service sucks.

The plastic center of my X-Men 2 disc chipped, not because it was dropped or mishandled (the readable portion is fine) but because the glue separated and it was sitting in the center hub. Each time you'd take it out of the case the plastic would continue to crack, yet I was told by a representative at Fox that it must have been my fault. I was spoken down to like a child.

You think Fox would try to retain customers and spend a few cents on a replacement disc instead of insult me.

Here's a sort-of related question; I just picked up the Spike Jonze Director's Label DVD and the included book is really messed up. Should I contact the website I ordered it from (DVDPlanet) or Palm?

I've gotten replacement copies of:

- The Butterfly Effect (Alliance Atlantis) heavy digitizing on my copy
- The Man with the Golden Gun (MGM) it couldn't get down to layer 2
- Never Say Never Again (MGM) it was missing a scene
- Opera (Anchor Bay) heavy digital breakup; mass-defect
- The Adventures of Tintin: volume 1 (Anchor Bay UK) audio out of sync with video

I did not send in my Back to the Future II & III, as the improper matting didn't bother me much

I got a reply from Universal today after months of trying to contact them and they want me to send the DVD, other crap, and the receipt! The DVD I have to return is over a year old and I threw away the receipt. The errors didnt occur until after multiple viewings.

Do I have to send the receipt? Is there a way around this? Who keeps their receipts for old DVDs?

I was thinking if they try and fuck me like this, Ill go to the store, but the DVD again, copy the receipt andmake the return. Than send off the new receipt with my old copy. Those fuckers cant con me.

Why the hell would they want the receipt??? You are sending the disc itself in. Isn't this proof enough that you actually own it???

Yea no shit! I got their prepaid envelope today and filled out all the info and I added for their caveat Emptor they dont need a receipt for a dvd Ive had over a year whos defects are starting to show!

Has anyone had success sending their stuff sans receipt?

In a weird twist I tried the DVD on my new Oppo and the defects did NOT show. They appeared on all my older players though. I tried out another one of my Uni defects and this one actually did show on the new Oppo. Go figure.

One trick around that silly requirement is to rebuy the DVD, and then return it with a copy of the receipt. That way you pay no money, but have a new receipt. Some stores will even reprint receipts for you.
