DVD Retirements

20th Century Fox will be retiring a number of its catalog titles. Going out of print on June 30th are Ice Age: Special Edition (2-disc set), The Fly I/II (double feature), FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Oklahoma and State Fair. Retiring on July 31st is The Bruce Lee Master Collection. Retired on September 2nd are Anastasia (animated), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Hustler and The Verdict. Going bye-bye on January 31st, 2006 are: 28 Days Later, The Beach, Carousel, The King and I, South Pacific and Miracle on 34th St. (1947). Get 'em all while you can.

ok ok...so it looks like a new Musicals set with anamorphic transfers will be coming as mentiond in Re-Releases blurb: Blues Brothers, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sound of Music NO DATES

Also looks like Paul Newman may get some SE love in the future.

Hoping for a new miracle on 34th to come for Xmas, and side by side with the other version yet to be released.

Best news to me is that the Bruce Lee set is going away...those transfers are the worst. Hope a new set is around the corner..now if they would have got rid of the Planet of the Apes it would be a banner day.

Out of all the DVDs listed, the only two in which I would be interested are Ice Age - Special Edition (maybe) and 28 Days Later. I assume their moratorium means that new releases will be taking their places at some point?

Rumors of a 5* version of The Fly have been going around for years, I hope it's around the corner.

they haven't made a 5* release since Speed and that was like 3 years ago.

If anything, it would just be a regular SE version.

SE of a Fly is in the works. Saw an article about it somewhere a while back. Stuff has already been produced for it.

Ice Age is being retired because a new release should be out soon (we've already had the new version over here in the UK).

I guess the others are due a re-release too.

I am interested in The Fly, Miracle on 34th St., and my wife has been wanting The Beach. The question is... are they going OOP or will they be re-released. If they are re-released then I will wait for the newer (and presumably better) version.

FLY: SE will be announced soon, without doubt. (I know a guy who knows a guy ) So, pass on the double-bill, or you'll be kicking yourself...

There's no such thing as OOP. There are only two-disc Special Unrated Director's Cut Editions.

The three Paul Newman discs (Butch, Hustler, Verdict) will still be available in the Films of Paul Newman box set which can be found for around $20.

It's Cronenberg's THE FLY / FLY II disk which is going OOP. As far as I know, the original THE FLY / RETURN OF THE FLY disk is still in print.

There may be more special editions for the musical titles, but it seems weird so many Newman titles goin OOP. I think they'd rerelease one and repackage them with ones that dont need a better version. Definitely have to pick up Sundance now, but is the Hustler a good version?
