I'm waiting on this one also...they should make a set and release it with Monsters. Another one I'm waiting for is Freddy's Nightmares, if anyone remembers that. I'm just happy they finally decided to release Tales from the Crypt.

I'd love to see Tales from the Darkside out on DVD. I can remember watching it when I was really young, being born in '81 and all, and I'd really like to be able to see it again, and see if the hype is still there.

My first response to reading this thread was, "Yeah, that would be cool" But then I tried to remember the shows and I honestly can't remember one story/show. I watched it all the time but I can't remember ANY of them. Remembering a show/movie is a litmus test for me so this doesn't bode well for it being a show I would still like. This goes for Monsters, as well.

I still have a few episodes from when I used to tape the show, and yes, the show probably isn't as great as your nostalgia/memory of it is.
That's not to say that there aren't some outstanding episodes that would be great on DVD:
Trick or Treat: this was the pilot episode, and IMHO the best episode, written by George A Romero. The ultimate halloween tale.
The Odds: A bookie (Danny Aiello) vs a rival back from the dead who can't lose a bet. This one has a very Twilight Zone ending.
Inside the Closet: great "creature" episode directed by Tom Savini.

epiosodes of the series. I'm fortunate to own several of the laserdisc (6 of them) editions and "Trick Or Treat" is on one them.

I remember the one with Darrin McGavin as a has been actor who played a cop in a '50s tv show. The show is a big hit on some alien planet where they are just now receiving the broadcast. When the shows suddenly stop because it was cancelled the aliens come to earth and look up McGavin in order to film a final episode and broadcast it to their planet.

Yeah, I liked Galaxy Quest, too. Oh, wait a minute...nevermind
They do sound quite similar, don't they?

I guess the Friday the 13th: The Series sold pretty well, since they are now releasing the second season of that and the first season of Darkside.

Awesome news. I spent many a happy Saturday afternoon watching this show (and its follow-up Monsters) on USA and still remember getting freaked-out beyond belief by "The Closet" episode.
Easily a must-buy for me

Thanks so much for this news! I've had vhs transfers to tide me over for a while, but will definatley bite as soon as this is available. I really dig these 80s horror anthology type shows. Hope they follow this up with the remaining seasons as it will make a nice companion to my 80s Twilight Zone sets.
