You can add Little Nikita to the list. It was originally a WS/FS flipper. Now it's WS only

darkhawk 05-27-08 08:33 PM

As you know, Columbia has been re-releasing some titles from WS/FS flipper to WS only.

Example: On the back of So I Married an Axe Murderer 's WS/FS flipper, it says that it's released in its original theatrical aspect ratio 1.85:1. On the back of the new WS only, it says 1.85:1 widescreen. The Glass House and others say the same thing.

Does anyone know if it's the OAR as the flipper's WS? I've seen this on a few dvds. Other new titles that was released widescreen only say 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen.

Alan Smithee 06-05-08 05:14 PM

The Glass House is really 2.35, the cover is wrong.

Just found LOOK WHO'S TALKING TOO in the WS/FS flipper at Toys R Us for $5.99. Sony changed it to fullscreen only,.

Dear Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Customer:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is currently in the process of reworking the Aspect Ratios on select DVDs.

Screamers - DVD 11869 Full Screen

Can anyone cofirm that the original release of Screamers does in fact list the correct aspect ratios (as this title was originally released Full Frame/Widescreen) on the packaging itself!!

I just picked this title up over at DVDPlanet and the information listed on the packaging is Full Frame only and I want to make sure it's not a mistake (this thread clearly establishes that it probably isn't). DVDPlanet still describes the title as having both FF and WS.

Thanks all!

... and thank you, Sony!!! #%@&!

Well, Full-Frame Only packaging would never have existed during the time they were producing FS/WS flippers. Obviously if it has packaging that reflects any sort of change to the disc contents after they've announced they've printed discs with new contents, then it will be accurate.

Peep 06-22-08 03:14 PM

There were a couple of cases where Sony didn't update the case art and it still said that both A/R's were only on the disc, when only 1 of them now was. There have been no reported cases of the disc art saying 1 A/R and the disc contains both.

visitor Q, you are SOOL. Maybe DVDPlanet will take the disc back as what they sent disagrees with their product description.

visitor Q 06-22-08 05:31 PM

Yeah, I kind of figured, Peep. Returning the disc won't be a problem (sealed) but I was hoping to avoid. Oh well, guess I'll have to pay an astronomical shipping fee to import a correct release ...

darkhawk 06-28-08 07:43 PM

SOLO starring Mario Van Peebles was WS/FS flipper. Does anyone know if it's now WS or FS only?

alfonsosoriano 07-08-08 06:36 PM

I also got the full screen version of Screamers. I guess I'll think about sending it back. Thankfully I stopped opening it as I saw on the back "full screen version".

*Edit* F-it, I'll just keep it. It was like $4, I'll just keep it, not worth the trouble. If this is the only way I can get the film for now, I'll just keep it.

Don't open it. If you do find one that's WS/FS flipper, buy it, then return the FS only version since it'll have the same UPC

alfonsosoriano 07-08-08 08:44 PM

Can you still find the flipper version B&M at Walmart/Best Buy/etc?

darkhawk 07-09-08 08:35 PM

I doubt Walmart would have it. Your best bet is to find it at Best Buy or Circuit City.

alfonsosoriano 07-09-08 08:57 PM

Yeah wasn't sure if it was something found in Walmart bargain bins or not, I don't go there often. Thank you!

Re: Columbia Fullscreen DVD Re-issues

At BJ's Wholesale I just found 4 copies of CHANCES ARE WS/FS flipper.

I'm not a member of there club, but for this I paid the 15% surcharge. It's only $4.99. With surcharge, it's $5.65.

As I mentioned before, Half Price Books seems to be a magnet for the Sony reissues.

Re: Columbia Fullscreen DVD Re-issues

Thanks for the advice, but being I'm in Florida and the closest Half Price Book Store is in Texas, this was a good deal at BJ's.

Be careful. I've read other people's experiences in getting a case that said "WS/FS" but the disc itself was FS-only.

I know, I'm the one that reported it. So far the only 2 to watch out for is Mixed Nuts and Buddy.

PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED was re-released FS only, But, at Bealls Outlet they just put out a whole bunch of it WS/FS flippers. I saw about 6 of them at 3 stores each for $8.99 each.

Yeah, I've bought Mixed Nuts and gotten the wrong one twice now.

I got burned twice with Mixed Nuts from Big Lots and Buddy twice from Walmart. I bought Peggy Sue when it first got released years ago in the WS/FS flipper. My wife's parents likes widescreens only (whew) and never bought it. We bought one Peggy Sue for them and it is the WS/FS flipper.

Re: Columbia Fullscreen DVD Re-issues

I've bought 6 separate copies of Mixed Nuts, all of which were FS-only despite being labeled as WS/FS flippers. I have given up on it completely.

Re: Columbia Fullscreen DVD Re-issues

Has Naked in New York and Wholly Moses only been available on dvd in FS? WM says on imdb.com that the correct OAR is 2:35.1. They don't list any for NINY. I've never seen these released in WS or WS/FS flipper.
