Do you buy a particularly great DVD to commemorate a milestone in your collection?

Like for you 100th or 500th or 1000th, do you wait on that last one for something of particular interest (upcoming release) or a favorite that you have been meaning to get just to have it hit right on that crowning achievement?

I say this because I am at 399 and tomorrow's "Hoop Dreams: Criterion Collection" will give me 400. While I don't mind a CC as a milestone, HD is far from an all time fav. though an excellent movie, so i am kinda torn, but not so much so that it keeps me up at night.

you?

Can't say that I do. I really don't keep track of where the next "milestone" is, because I don't think of my collection as a bunch of numbers, but as a bunch of films and TV shows that I enjoy. And I just buy whatever I want to get whenever it comes out, or whenever I have the money. I wouldn't deny myself having a disc for a month or so, just so that it could be #1250 in my collection or whatever.

Not really. I'm usually aware of an approaching milestone (simply because I've not had many), and I'll keep it in mind while purchasing. But I won't skip something just because I don't want it to be #x.

God, I don't even know how many DVDs I have. Between 100-200, I suppose. This brings up the old issue. Is it discs? Sets? Movies? Boxes? What's the counting criteria?

No. However you want to celebrate milestones in your collection is up to you I guess. I'd try not to think about it. I just enjoy what I'm buying and what I have in my collection I don't care if its #438 or #500...

However, I might have a pizza tomorrow night. It will be my 4999th pizza. I plan on just having a crappy frozen one and saving the fresh delicious one for the 5000th. Afterwards, I'm going to brush my teeth for the 10000th time. I plan on making that one REALLY special. I might even get a new flavor of toothpaste and and a new toothbrush.

I'm not exactly asking my DVD collection out for a date, so...no.

Nope. I don't keep track of the number of DVDs I have, so I never know when I hit a "milestone".

Every so often I'll count them just to see how many I have, but that's about it.

In a word, no. The fact that a particular DVD was the 100th or 1000th addition to my collection is of no particular significance to me.

No, because (no offence) I think the idea is silly, and also because I don't have a solid count of exactly how many DVDs I own. Do I count the fitness DVD my wife bought last month? What about the three-pack of obscure indies that Sundance sent me for free a couple of years ago?

Ed Wood "Recalled, mine is better than yours edition " was #500 but it wasn't on purpose.

I have so many DVDs, my bedposts don't even have room for more notches.

But number 300 is gotta be close, I wonder what sweet succulentness of DVD might be for my taking?

I bought "Kagemusha" to commemorate my historic purchase of "Kagemusha." Off to the store now to commemorate that historic commemoration.

I didn't realize it until a few weeks afterwards, but my 150th purchase was the 6-disc Ed Wood Box.

Nope, because while I try not to buy DVDs I won't really want later, it happens, and I won't hang on to it for the sake of doing so. Because of this, while I have around 340 titles right now, I've owned at least 25 more than that. That's how I look at it, anyway. Plus, as organized as I keep everything, I don't really keep tabs on milestones like that.

no because I sell off my older DVDs and re-number them so my 500th DVD may become my 419th DVD after time.

Disc 10 - The Exorcist 25th Anniversary Collection (should've been my 25th purchase instead)
Disc 50 - The Wizard of Oz SE (awesome 50th disc!)
Disc 100 (very suitable) - The 10th Kingdom !
Disc 200 - Black Chrismas (not special, should've been 125th disc)
Disc 300 - Killer Klowns from Outer Space (long awaited, so yup - it's still unforgiveable years later they couldn't put the music video on this disc)
Disc 400 - Legend (a legend-ary purchase)
Disc 500 - Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (not very memorable for a 500th purchase)
Disc 600 - DEVO: The Complete Truth about De-Evolution (nope...)
Discs 700-703 - Star Wars IV, V & VI plus bonus disc (this is something very special indeed)
Disc 750 - The Ewok Adventures: Caravan of Courage & Battle for Endor (hey, this worked out nicely!)

I have no idea how many DVD's I have now. I used to have more but I have recently "thinned the herd" quite a bit. I just keep a running list in my head of must haves on dvd and check them off as I get them. The list is considerably shorter now than it used to be (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Indy, Back to the Future, etc)

Take care all!!
