Class of 1984 May 17th

Anyone remember Class of 1984? It was a B movie about a gang of punks that terrorize a High School Teacher. A young Michael J. Fox was also in it. Is it coming back to you now? Well it's finally coming to dvd May 17th. Any fans out there?

Anchor Bay's site shows it as "late summer."

I have been wanting to see this for so long! I was about 7 when it originally came out, but I remember seeing the movie poster in the newspaper and thought it looked scary & cool. Also, I vaguely remember seeing some hot leather-clad punk chick on the poster...that may have played a part. At any rate, I'll be looking for this when it comes out.

I got the R2 from Germany awhile back. But the pitch on the audio track is too high and everyone sounds like they breathed in helium (I've never seen PAL speedup this bad so maybe it's something else). I'll be glad if I can get a better version.

I suspect this is not coming out on May 17 as I can't find any other site that says so nor is it in the DVD Price Search database.

Buy.com has it for August 23 which would be consistent with BSTNFAN's post saying Anchor Bay website has it listed for late summer. Let's hope.

DVD Empire now also has it listed for August 23.

I ordered mine from DDD which has that same date, so for now it looks like the date will be 8/23.

iI might be a good thing. It could be because they are adding special features (like with what paramount did with Danger Diabolik) The original announcement was for a seemingly bare bones dvd.

The AB website says (and I think it has said this all along) that it will contain "an audio commentary with director Mark L. Lester, and many other extras TBA."

Check out this Fangoria article from June of 2004 (that is, over a year ago), with a quote from AB's Michael Felsher:

“It’ll be our usual special-edition/restoration,” Felsher reports, “with all the goodies. It’s too early to announce details, but Mark Lester will definitely be involved in the transfer and the extras. Other participants and more details will be revealed in the coming months.”

UK uncut version is out (uses the same master as the forthcoming US version). The transfer is stunning!

Here are some screen comparisons between the French and the New UK disc (also has the Mark Lester commentary btw):

I guess I'll be patient and wait for the R1, but the U.K. release is very tempting!

I had the UK disc yesterday and -yes- it has a very slightly cleaner image, but nothing that I'd fall over myself to update plus it's just a whole lot brighter to me than the French disc

Sadly, save for a trailer/TV spot and commentary that's all Mosaic could cough up in the way of extras. Commentaries bore me usually so I like to see interviews with the cast and technicians.

Alternate US poster

On a side note I thought the film had dated terribly and was shockingly bad. I suppose it's been 2 decades since I saw it on VHS and things change.

I see Amazon.com have a confirmed date of January 2010

I realise that's standard for withdrawn DVDs but it's funny to read the VERY angry comments.

I love that alternate poster and would love to have it hung on my wall

Now what is the hold up with the dvd release here in R1??
