DVD Password???

DVD Password???
I often buy used DVD's at the pawn shop and last week I bought "Jack Frost 2", some chessy horror movie about a mutant snowman for $4.00. When I put the DVD in both my DVD player and in my computer it asks for some "password" and it won't play the movie at all.... what's up with this?? I've never seen this before.

sounds good, but I play R rated movies all the time and never had this problem and why does it also do it on my computer DVD player??

I ran into this problem myself trying to play a "racy" anime on my new Yamakawa DVD player. I didn't even know there was password protection in the unit. Perused the manual, checked and found it was unlocked. Still wouldn't play. Noticed that the DVD had an NC-17 rating. Went into the parental control menu and changed the rating from level 8 (anything) to level 7 (NC-17). Bingo...DVD played. See if your unit is similar.

According to all logic, the player should play any DVD with a rating lower than, or equal to, the player setting. I would have assumed, then that if set at level 8 ( the highest) it would play anything, especially an NC-17, which is the level 7 setting. Didn't turn out to be. There was obviously a disagreement between the player software and the encoded parental setting on the DVD. Setting the DVD player to the same level as the DVD resolved the issue. It shouldn't have been necessary
