Argh! Batman '89!!?!?!?

Does anyone else remember the Wb chat almost a year ago where they confirmed there would be an SE of Burton's Batman '89 to be released in time for Nolan's 'Batman Begins'? If so - has anyone heard any news? I have been out of the loop lately and just thought of this. Surely to God they did not shelve the project.

There was talk of one coming, but it was uncertain when it would be released. I'm sure (hoping) we'll see it come out about the time of Batman Begins's dvd release, unless it's coming sooner and there just hasn't been an announcement. There's a thread on it here somewhere (you can search), or head over the Home Theater Forum and I think they have the chats archived.

I've been mystified by WB's treatment of Batman (and Batman Returns) for years. The original 1997 DVD hasn't been updated? I still just can't fathom it. Most of Burton's other films have nice SEs (except BEETLEJUICE--dammit, another WB!!! "I grab a pen and I write out a list/Of all the assholes that won't be missed/You've made my shitlist!") WB is a bunch of diseased yaks...

[WarnerHomeVideo] Yes and Yes

[MattMcKeehen] ...You confirmed earlier that you are indeed working on SE's for the previous Batman films. Can you elaborate on this any, specifically when they might be released?

[WarnerHomeVideo] Sorry, we can't elaborate, but look for the Bat signal!
I'd like a better transfer of MotP.

You're right I can't believe WB hasn't cashed in on the double dip market, especially for the 1st 2 films, with the current superhero craze in movies.

There's supposed to be new SE's of all four of them later this year, including a new Director's Cut of Forever.

Well, the last we heard it sounded like they were either trying to get individual SE releases out for Batman Begins, and if not just release a new box set. Wtih Batman Begins so close without any more news, my guess is they're going the box set route.

Wow I mean we have all been clamoring for Joel Schumacher's vision of how this film should have turned out. I'd be interested if there was a lesbian scene with Drew Barrymore and Nicole Kidman.

Quite disappointing this is not being released in June....I've waited 5 or 6 years for it as the current version (along with Blade Runner while we're at it) is on the brink of unwatchable on my current set-up

Actually cruz, if you read the original script, it would have been without a doubt the best Batman film ever. It was dark and focused very much on why Bruce is Batman. They filmed most of what made the script so good, but the studio cut it out. Schumacher is putting those scenes back in and doing new FX shots for the new scenes. One of which is Two-Face escaping Arkham in the beginning. The majority of the cut footage was of Bruce and the red book, why Bruce is Bats, etc. It will make for a much stronger picture. If you ask me, Forever was the most true to the source material, sure I'm not fond of the neon lights and Jones overacting, but Val was the best Bruce/Bats, it actually focused on Bruce/Bats, whereas he was just a side character next to the villians in the Burton flicks, the Robin story is straight out of the comics, the suit looks better, etc.

It may not be anamorphic, but the transfer is out of this world.

If this is the the case (the original script being good and it remaining true to the script) then I stand corrected. Thanks for the extra info.

Wow. I'd never heard that before. Hey, what the hell. I've always been partial to Returns, and have got countless amounts of shit over the years for it; to not love the first film is sacrilegious to most people.

Depending on whom you ask, to love or not love the first film is sacrilegious.
