24 Season 4>>>>>> July 19, 2005

Seems kind of early, but many U.K. retailers are shooting for a July 18th date. http://www.play.com among a few other sites I've read are stating that date as well. The U.S. will be available on July 19th.
In other TV news, this is also the same date that "The O.C. Season 2" comes out. Damn July 19th is going to be a big spending day for me.

That's a much faster turnaround than the other ones. I'm not complaining though. Well, my wallet is.

Wouldn't this news be better suited in the International forum section. Have it be Angel, Buffy, Futurama, X-files or 24, R2 gets the season box sets much quicker than the R1 crowd.

This will be no exception. R2 gets the seasons sets often six months before R1 gets it. The R1 model for release is to wait for a month or so before the new season and then release it.

Note that season 3 of 24 was like this for R2 release and it ended up that by waiting, R1 got an extra bonus mini episode out of it linking the seasons together.

So while these are pretty much set in stone R2 release dates, It's not a good assumption to think that R1 will follow so quickly.

Personally, I hope they hold off on Season 4 for a while, as I have yet to get Seasons 2 & 3. Got the first during that Amazon first season Fox sale.

Anyone else remember Dalvin's last thread on this very subject? His remarks were proved quite dubious in that thread. Until this is confirmed, I'd take this info with a grain of salt.

Dalvin is starting to remind me of a guy I used to work with. Couldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it.

Excuse me, but the first time I heard it, it was a gentleman quoting the December date on a DVD radio show in the LA area(am 690). I'm sorry about the date, but it wasn't my fault, that's just the date that he said. We are all big DVD fans here, just trying to help one another out.

UK Region 2 release date for Season 4 was listed as August 1st on all the UK retailer sites when I pre-ordered it at the end of February/beginning of March.

Now it would seem like Fox have moved it forward to July 18th. Fine by me

Then help out by giving solid DVD info, instead of unsubstantiated rumors and hearsay.

I don't get why everyone is jumping down this guys throat. Look at the site he linked, it is listed for a July 18th release(R2 at least). How is this any different than posting a thread saying Amazon is listing Scrubs: Season 2 for Nov. 28th, for example?

So at worst this should be moved to International.

I appreciate the heads up Dalvin.

Well, that site that he linked to was editted in later....after the majority of these replies.

Well I hope this is true. I've just gotten into 24 and am currently on Disc 2 of Season 2, if the 4th season comes out in the summer I can watch it before the 5th begins up in the fall

Well, even if it comes out in the fall you will still have time to watch before season 5. Chances are they will do 5 like 4 and start in Jan, and run 24(or there-about) weeks straight.

Season 4 is the first one I've watched week by week; the first three I viewed on DVD, watching all 24 episodes over a few days.

IMO, this show is much more entertaining if you don't give yourself too much time to think about it between episodes.

It's just like a comic book or an old-time movie serial, overwhelmingly powered by the desire to know "what happens next?" If you have time to start asking "why did he do that" or "how is that possible," it starts to fall apart.

I may or may not buy the S4 set for completeness' sake, but I will *not* be watching S5 until I can watch the whole thing.

I have to agree, I enjoyed S1-S3 much more when I watched them daily. Might have to do the same for S5.

I'm going to make a prediction that the Region 1 version won't hit shelves until late November/early December. It's almost a certainty that Season 5 won't premiere until January of 2006.

Jack Bauer gets around L.A. rather quickly and rarely do you ever see him sweat. Aside from this I think that 24 is a great show. Season 4 is the first season that i have watched week by week and it is painful. I prefer to have them on dvd and devour them in one meal, but i just couldn't wait for the dvds this time around. If I have to make any bets I would say that season 5 (if there is one) will be the last.

I agree with Shannon (who's rarely wrong about these things).

Yeah, which is precisely why I don't watch them as they air. With their episode to episode cliff-hangers it would be very painful to watch them weekly. Watching them on DVD helps to keep the flow going without giving each episode much thought.

I bought the first season when Amazon was throwing that sale on all Fox series First Seasons. I just ordered Season 2 tonight.

Yeah, I can't believe that they'll carry this series on much longer. Depending on how this season ends, it may be the final or second to last season for the show.

Although I watch (and enjoy) 24, I find it depressing that people are adjusting their viewing habits so that they don't have to give each episode "much thought".

That is why I watch 24 but I would never buy it on DVD. I can't see myself ever watching the episodes again.

I'm the opposite. I've watched season 1 2 1/2 times through. Twice for season 2. I haven't yet picked up 3, but I watched it on air.

I love it.

QUOTE]

Why is it depressing? Most episodic TV fails to hold up under scrutiny. That doesn't make it any less entertaining, if it's well-done in other ways.

The sort of detailed craftsmanship that goes into making a plot watertight and completely credible is tough enough to do in a novel or feature film, where the writer has as long as he needs to perfect a single story. To expect it in a weekly TV series is to expect too much.

To me, the main attraction of 24 is its relentless, non-stop, no-brakes style. Thrill rides are only thrilling while you're on the ride; you're not thinking about what you're experiencing, you're just experiencing it. Maybe it's because I watched the first three seasons on DVD, but I find that the week between episodes either gives me too much time to nitpick, or makes me lose the sense of urgency that drives the series along.

Or it could be that Season 4 just isn't as good as the previous ones. Hard to tell.

Isn't this series getting a bit boring for everybody. I've been catching every other episode this season, and honestly other then the time stamp, I can't tell one hour from another. One week Jack is torturing suspect X, next week shooting at suspect Y, the following week torturing suspect Y... The same sheit over and over again... Just more of the same, but slightly different, and always predictable. **YAWN**
