Anyone else have this DVD addiction/problem?

Where once your purchase a certain dvd, you have to have every one of them in the series even though you hate some of the sequels or seasons.

For example, I love Beverley Hills Cop 1 and 2 but not big fan of 3 but I have to have it to complete set. Same with Rocky 4 and 5 and other movies. Even season sets where I really need to have entire set if I pick something up. The only one I have held off on is Jason Goes To Hell (Part 9 in the F13th series) because that is a huge disgrace to the series.. I even picked up Halloween 3 to complete Halloween set.

I hate this problem because I spend $$ on stuff I wouldn't buy if it was released just by itself.

So do anyone of you have this problem where you have to buy stuff (even though you don't enjoy it) just to finish off and complete a series/season? Which would you say is your worst/least enjoyable purchase?

Yeah, I have that same problem. I only wanted the first few Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street movies... but then I found the Friday the 13th box set at a good used price, and the Nightmare on Elm Street set was insanely cheap during the last Deep Discount DVD sale.

I guess I'll be able to break it for some things though. Mad TV and In Living Color were both really good to start, but then went to absolute crap after a few seasons. I'll be able to keep myself from buying the later ones should they come out. Unless I find them at some stupid price, like $5, that is. Then they get bought just to make the shelf look more impressive.

My big problem is getting rid of DVD's I don't like or don't care about. A friend gave me About Schmidt, Adaptation, Best of Friends vol 1-4, and a few other DVD's. At best I'm apathetic towards the discs, and in some cases I hate them (Friends). But they were free, and they make the collection look that much bigger... and I know that I can't get more than a buck each in trade. So they stay on the shelf.

donate them to a library or film school and get a tax write off.

could be worse...you could smoke crack....but that might not be as expensive as dvd collecting.

I must have every film in a series. Even if the first film is the only good one. It's a curse really.

Nope...not me! Here's a good example: I only own Aliens! I do like the first movie but just have never gotten around to picking it up. The 3rd and 4th movies I didn't care for!!

Take care all!!

I was going to collect every Spielberg film, but then I remembered he directed Hook.

I had the entire Rocky set just because you needed 4 and 5 to make the picture on the side. Ive since sold it and have yet to buy the new set...I may see if I can get the first 3 for cheaper.

I have managed to avoid this in other places...I dont have Superman III and IV or Batman Forever and B&R, although I do need to buy Superman II and Batman Returns. I do have the entire Alien Quadrilogy though, but Resurrection was the only one that was really bad. As for TV sets, yeah, I did buy Alias Season 3.

Fortunately, I don't have that problem. Unfortunately, I do have every other DVD addiction/problem

I have this problem with MGM's Midnight Movies. I can't stand biker flicks but buy them anyway. Some of the horror/sci-fi stuff can be torture to sit through.

If I don't like it, I don't buy it.

I cant even afford to buy all the movies I do like, so why should I spend money on crap?

I used to think that way, then I bought Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1. Saw a couple of the episodes, not any of the others.

That pretty much killed it for me. I like the show, I'm just never going to see all the episodes.

It's a constant struggle against this tendency for me. I sit there at the computer looking at something to buy saying, "I do not need Godfather III (insert sequel name here)." I've got SW I back on my wishlist. WHY?!?!

Just be glad you don't collect Picassos or something....

I do this sometimes, but not always. I picked up Jason Goes to Hell and Halloween 6 precisely for this reason, but there are tons of others I "just say no" to. I wouldn't buy Jaws III and IV, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Caddyshack II, any of the Police Academy sequels, Superman IV, Batman Forever or Batman & Robin, Another Stakeout, Vegas Vacation or Christmas Vacation 2, Matrix Reloaded or Matrix Revolutions, Speed 2, Another 48 Hrs., or Beverly Hills Cop 3 under any circumstances. There are a bunch of crappy sequels I've been saddled with simply because they came as part of a box set that I haven't had the heart to break up, though, like Godfather Pt. III, Back to the Future II & III, Rocky V, Rambo III, and The Next Karate Kid.

Hi, I'm Chuck & I'm a DVD Addict. (Hello Chuck) I seriously have this problem. I'm buying Star Trek Enterprise and I thought the show itself was a steaming pile. But I'm a completist. I have every season of every other Trek franchise and have to buy this as well. Additionally, I bought Jaws 3 & 4 ($5 apiece) just to complete the series. I absolutely HATE these films. but had to have them for that sense of completion.

Man, I need a drink.

It ain't worth the effort if the rest of your Schedule A Itemized deductions or business/employee expenses don't go above your standard deduction.

I have the whole Bond set despite the fact that I probably never watch half of them a second time. I own Speed 2. I own the entire Police Academy series. And many more, so yeah I do. I am a completist in some degree.

If a movie I enjoy has sequels I don't care for, I don't feel obligated to buy them; I'll just pick up the original. For instance, I only have the first Conan, the first Superman (though I keep meaning to pick up Superman II) and the first two Bat-flicks. The only exception is when a really affordable collection is released (like RoboCop), and then I treat the sequels like bonus materials.

I only have the problem with tv series, but luckily I am restricting myself to only picking up a handful of series - my absolute favorite shows. As far as needing to get the sequels in a series, the only movie collections I own are those available in box sets (ie. Godfathers, original Star Wars, Indiana Jones), so not really a choice, even though I do enjoy them all.

For some reason I MUST own every Coen brothers film, so I bought Intolerable Cruely and The Ladykillers, as crappy as they may be.
