I'm really surprised that the first season was only six episodes, since I still remember the premiere which was three episodes in a row (the Santa one, the executioner and one more that I can't remember right now). There were only three more that season?

Yes. The entire first season ran in the month of June 1989. The second season did not air until April 1990.

More info from TVShowsOnDVD:
This does not come to us directly from the studio, so please chuck this in the "Rumor Mill" column for now. Here's the list we were provided, though, from a source we consider to be quite dependable:

New DVD introduction from the Cryptkeeper (voiced by John Kassir)
Featurette: "Tales From The Crypt: From Comic Books To Television"
Featurette: "The Cryptkeeper's History Of Season 1"

I hope nobody bought the From Comic Books To Television DVD.

So the feature length documentary is going to be a part of the set? Very nice!

Does somebody know if the following seasons also will leave to the sale ?
Because I have already the first five seasons and I seek seasons 6 and 7 of this series.

So was there ever an official announcement about the special fetures for this set? The release is only two weeks away, and I can't find anything solid regarding extras. Did I miss something?

The other extra is the excellent 50-minute documentary "Tales from the Crypt: From Comic Books to Television." Released as a standalone DVD (with a second disc of extras) in October of 2004, this history of EC, the publisher of Tales from the Crypt, is engaging, informative and definitely entertaining, thanks to a nice mix of talking heads and animated recreations of the publisher's comics. If you enjoy the series, the story behind it is potentially even more fascinating, if only because it really happened. As the documentary leads into the creation of the HBO series, it is the perfect in-context extra for this set.

Also can anyone verify if the episodes will be the uncut original HBO versions....and not the edited down network tv versions?

I am sure they will be uncut. But with various tv sets using the cut syndicated prints. Some are speculating this would be the cut versions. I doubt it,since that would be really foolish. Since the cut versions are unwatchable!

If these turn out to be the syndicated, edited versions, then this set will be the biggest travesty in the history of DVD.

Luckily, common sense tells me that won't be the case.

tvshowsondvd.com reports that one of the episodes, "And All Through the House", is 4:18 shorter than the other episodes. does anyone know if this is edited or was it always shorter than the others?

It has always been shorter. If I remember correctly, the first three episodes of Crypt premiered as an 1 and a 1/2 hour movie with "all through the House" as apart of it, and the other two episodes being longer.

Yes, all the episodes of TftC have differing running times. Some are as short as 20 minutes ("Cutting Cards"), some are as long as 45 minutes ("Yellow").
