Pre-ordering DVDs
I have two questions about DVD releases:
1) Is it true that e-tailers and stores will have DVDs in stock weeks before they are released?
2) If the above is true, then if you preorder a dvd online, if it possible that it will it get shipped to you immediately...like before the release date?
If this is true, then I am buying some DVDS right now that won't be released until late april.

stores will often get the DVDs in stock a week or 2 in advance.
A lot of e-tailers will ship you pre-orders early but it's rare that you'll get it weeks in advance....in most cass, at most a week in advance.

Hello and welcome, cool new member.
In the past, it was very common that next weeks new releases would get to you by friday to monday before that tuesdays release date. It all depends on your distance from the hub they are getting them out from.
So pre-ordering often did result in getting it just a bit early. It all just depends on distance.

It would be the exception rather than the rule to receive a pre-order more than a few days in advance of the actual release date, and even that seems to be happening less and less.
And speaking of rules ..... the more eagerly you are anticipating a particular title, the less likely you are to receive it early and/or on time.

And I usually get my preorders on the Saturday before the release date. Unless of course I really want them.

I always preorder my tv-shows-on-dvd on amazon for a) the price and B) conveniance. Usually the titles I order will ship the friday before release and arive the day before or day of release (except in December they usually show up about 2 days AFTER release).
