National Lampoons Blackball? What the ding dong?

How on earth can they get away with this, surely it's false advertising?

This movie has nothing whatsoever to do with National Lampoons (mind you, these days some would say that's a good thing).

It is a nondescript, minor British comedy that crept out over here the tail end of last year, got awful reviews and died a death. I think it actually went to DVD a week after the cinema release - that's when you know it's a complete dog.

It did have a couple of US stars like Vince Vaughn and James Cromwell, and revolved around the quaint old English game of crown green bowling. Paul Kaye is best known as Dennis Pennis, but has done little of note since.

Surely this is misrepresentation?

Wes Craven had nothing to do with 'They','Dracula 2000'or 'Dracula 2' and that didnt stop them from putting his name on it

National Lampoon is a company...they bought a property from another country, and put their name on it. Trying to build their libary these days. If you hadn't noticed, they have been putting out some craptastic movies direct to video lately....

Honestly outside of Animal House, and the Vacation movies they have missed the target more than a few times.

I dug this movie. I actually bought the R2 disc of it a year or so ago. I'm a big Johnny Vegas fan and I thought this movie had its moments.

National Lampoon puts out a LOT of garbage they aquire "last resort", "gold diggers", "dorm daze" etc.

This is at least better than those flicks. NL isn't really a reliable brand name and hasn't been for a long, long time.

I'll give you that...but doubt it will obtain the classic status that animal house or the original vacation movie have...it had some good laughs...

I remember when this was coming to theaters they kept saying they were trying to bring the National Lampoon name back to what it used to be (before all the crappy 90's direct-to-video messes). A good idea, but what did they follow Van Wilder up with? Dorm Daze, that Cousin Eddie Christmas Vacation spinoff, Lost Reality...

And don't forget Quentin Tarrantino's "Hero" . . .

. . . if you are looking for a good movie about lawn bowling, check out the Aussie flick "Cracker Jack." It even stars the old guy from "Kangaroo Jack."

. . . if you are just looking for movies about obscure sports, try "Men With Brooms" (about curling!).

Almost all the present National Lampoon films, including Van Wilder, were never meant to be National Lampoon films. National Lampoon throws money towards a film they believe will make the money during post-production to try and get the name on that film. I remember the director of Van Wilder being quite pissed off due to this occurance.

What are you talking about, Dorm Daze was a great movie, a couple of levels of complexity above the average college campus comedy.
