Fangoria's Blood Drive. Most of the stories were pretty weak...

You know it's bad when the best thing is one of the extras on the disc: An interview with Clive Barker along with a tour of his Abarat studio.

Monster

After reading through this thread, I think the third thread in this trilogy should be "Other people's worst blind buys that you actually like".

Mine would include hollow man, monkeybone and requiem for a dream. (just one guys opinion of course..... )

Gotta disagree there. Equilibrium was what the second and third Matrix films should have been.

Which leads me to my worst blind buy - Matrix Revolutions. Didn't see it in the theater, but I just had to finish the collection. I didn't think it could get any worse than Reloaded, but I was soooo wrong.

Two of the worst blind buys for myself where....

Contraband......terribly boring Fulci mob film. It sounded cool, the hype from Fulci fans was appealing and it sounded like a good gruesome fun time. Yet instead,it's a blandly made unstylish, badly paced film that is just mind numblingly boring. The majority of the real gore was saved for the ending...and by then I didn't give a shit anymore. btw..the trailer shows 99% of the gore/set pieces/entire film..and is actually more entertaining than sitting through the entire thing!

Ichi The Killer........what a load of crap. The nerds who hyped this film up,must not get out much..and must not have seen far better 'outrageous' 'graphic' 'gruesome' films.

Boring, aimless, mean spirited...barely any 'real' gore(majority of actual gore seen is aftermath stuff). Bad CGI for alot of the few onscreen gore moments....bad attempts at being 'quirky' while taking the material deadly serious and dull...and it all adds up to a huge letdown. Where is the over the top zany comic book cartoonish nature the nerds hyped the film up as being? Instead,it was just a boring depressing experiance..which only made me laugh once(the aftermath of the tongue cutting sequence was hilarious).

I will now be very careful regarding hyped up Japanese/Asian films...or any international cult films for that matter. Also will be very selective and cautous when it comes to more Miike films. I was hoping he would be a kickass director, but so far the films I have seen have done very little for me.

Now..I plan to see Dead or Alive someday and that better deliver!

...and a couple films mentioned in this thread,I can say I proudly own

Irreversible and Requiem for a Dream..depressing but ultimately amazing film experiances, which I have watched a couple times since getting the dvds

I also agree that Get Short sucks, the book was hilarious and awsome though! But the film was terrible and highly overrated.

I love that movie. It is so damn ridiculous, over the top, and out there that it is just...I don't know...guilty pleasurable.

It also shares a distinction with Showgirls in that both films have a rape scene that I laughed at, because they were both utterly ridiculous and out of place.

I'm a sucker for that goddamn $5.50 bin at Wal-Mart. Worst from there? Altered States, Hong Kong 1941, and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

JesseCuster, if that Zombi 2 is the new SE, I'd be willing to take it off your hands...

Mine would include almost half the titles mentioned in this thread (including Monster ). I can't believe some of these movies can be called the "worst" of anything. Different strokes, I guess...

Sorry but I dumped it long ago. And it wasn't the new SE. It was like, the 4th release or something with the commentary by the Fangoria editor(?) and the lead actor. Man, I'd watch a puppet show rendering of Dawn of the Dead before I'd watch that again.

Another one I just didn't get the vibe on was Two Lane Blacktop. It wasn't at all a bad film, just one that seemed completely aimless and so without any semblance of a story that there just wasn't a heck of a lot of reason to watch it. And I know, that was part of the point of the film. Maybe it was just a movie of it's time. It was one of the first big independent films. And Warren Oates gives a fine performance. Sort of a nihilistic ending too, which is often interesting to me. I don't know...I watched it through, kind of scratched my head and put it up on Ebay the next morning. Not a horrible blind buy but I haven't thought about it for a second since I watched it until now.

Code 46, thought it looked good, was completly wrong, I'm normally pretty good at making judgements based on trailers, but got burned with this one.

Herzog's Heart of Glass.

I'd wanted to see it for years, expecting I'd really like it. NOPE.
