Anybody else ever get a screening DVD?

Last night I bought An American Werewolf in London, watched it enjoyed it and then watched the special features. Not a bad DVD, but the transfer could use some work.

As I'm pulling out the DVD I notice some printed words on the disc that look kind of cheesey. So I take a look and at the top it says

FULL LENGTH SCREENING DVD. DISC FUNCTIONALITY AND CONTENT MAY DIFFER ON FINAL PRODUCT. IF YOU HAVE RENTED OR PURCHASED THIS DVD CALL 1-800-622-6797.

So I call the number today and it says that this number is not available in this area.

Anybody else have a situation like this one?

I got one once it was an X-files VHS. The quality wasn't bad but there was small captioning at the bottom of screen "This is a screening tape if you bought or rented this tape call 1-800" I didn't call the number and report it since I bought it at a flea market.

A buddy of mine's parents are members of the film academy and get them all the time. He copies them for me on occasion.

Back in the 1980s, the youth director at my church was friend's with Robert Stigwood's cook, so he'd get copies of all sorts of screeners through his friend that I'd sometimes borrow and watch. It was nice being able to see some things that weren't yet available on home video, though the quality was not always that great (being at least one generation removed from the screener was part of the problem, of course).

Hey Raging Bull,

I had the same dvd until recently, and it had the screener writing on the disc also. Though i buy dvds from all kinds of places (new, used, ebay, etc), i was pretty sure that i bought that one new at a B&M. Never bothered to call the number, but did think it was odd.

The dvd seemed fine, didnt have the screener scroll that alot of screeners have...if it didnt say it was a screener i wouldnt have known.
