The Greatest Murder Mystery Films...

...what are they? hoping that some real gems that are "lost" or "relatively obscure" rather than totally mainstream come out, but i admit i would love to hear all and any suggestions as to the greatest murder mystery films out there... complicated plots, twisted visuals, bizarre killers with bizarre logic... surprise me(!). thanks...

I just caught TCM's showing of Shadow of a Doubt (again) - still great. More suspense than mystery, but it's my favorite Hitchock film and Joseph Cotten plays a chillingly psychotic "Uncle Charlie."

I will add Rear Window, Rashomon, and Witness for the Prosecution.

This should probably go into Movie Talk, since it isn't discussing the DVDs specifically.

Memories of Murder. Well actually not sure if there's a R1 release of it but I love this movie. It's based on true events in Korea and the killer hasn't been caught.

The original Diabolique is a classic. The Russian version of Ten Little Indians is great too, if you don't mind subtitles. If you're a Christie fan, Murder on the Orient Express is a nice buy for a nice price now, too.

Another vote for Sleuth. Honorable mention, while not theatrical films - the Prime Suspect series with Helen Mirren.

By far Agatha Christies best mystery novel and there was a pretty good film adaptation out of the several versions made.

I also liked the film version of Murder on the Orient Express. For the classic 30's mystery movies Charlie Chan at the Opera is really good and the Thin Man will always be one of my all time favorites.

Isn't this more of a movie forum question?

But to answer your question, The Three by Donald Kauffman. It turns out the killer, his victim and the policeman chasing them were all the same person!

Kauffman should take the producers of Twisted to court. they clearly "borrowed" from his screenplay.
