kris81 are you speaking to me?

um, okay here goes:

kill bill: alot of people seem to own either one or both of the movies, and from the numbers it sold id say most people do.

pulp fiction: have you been in the "Post Pictures of you HT/DVD Collection!!!!" thread?

jackie brown: see above

Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.

The Shawshank Redemption
Actually, somehow I've never seen this, much less own it.

Disney animated platinum editions
Disney Treasures tins
Pixar (Toy Story, Monsters Inc, etc)
I have three of the Platinum editions (Beauty & Beast, Lion King, Aladdin) and one of the tins (Mickey Mouse in Color V1). I got Mickey in B&W V1 for a friend as a Christmas present one year.

I have all the Pixars to date except Bug's Life, and I have The Incredibles on preorder.

Band of Brothers
Bridge on the River Kwai
Lawrence of Arabia
No, no, and no.

Godfather trilogy
Yep. Day of release.

Citizen Kane
Saving Private Ryan
Rear Window
Schindler's List
Of those four, I only have SPR. I want Rear Window though. (Just found out tonight that a lady in my church choir is a big Hitchcock fan.)

at least 1 or 2 Disney Platinum Editions or Disney/Pixar in general. i think at least one of them resonates with so many people and they have it for nostalgia sake, plus they are damn good presentations as a whole.

Master Shake 05 02-23-05 08:16 AM

well when the incredibles comes out you can add it to the list...

ianholm 02-23-05 08:23 AM

The Incredibles won't end up in my collection, but I nominate Finding Nemo in it's place!

I used to use this site before switching to DVD AF and remembered that they kept stats on this. Some interesting titles on here...some difficult to believe...definately skewed toward older titles.

Most folks here have a nice collection of French new wave and Italian neo-realist cinema.

Gig 02-23-05 10:46 AM

id have to say i think jurassic park collection is quite popular.

tonyc3742 02-23-05 11:00 AM

Some magazine, Newsweek maybe, did an article on how big DVD is getting, along with top 20 sales at the time. Most of them were pretty much no-brainers; Matrix, Pixar's stuff, Indy, Star Wars. One thing I found interesting was Matrix 2 [whatever it was called] had higher sales than the original Matrix.
Of the titles listed so far in this thread, I've got
Matrix
LotR series
all the Star Warses
Citizen Kane
Memento
Finding Nemo
Monsters Inc
Shrek
Superman 1-3

Had Bridge over Kwai, sold it. No interest in owning Kill Bill.

pagansoul 02-23-05 11:22 AM

Everyone must buy Bambi when it comes out. If not for yourself, your kid or someones kid. The single best disney full length animation made. But that's just me. :)

The american classic Freddy Got Fingered is usually in everyone's dvd collection.

Ditto for me. I have absolutely no interest in LOTR. Never saw it, don't plan on seeing it.

I'd say The Matrix, at least the first film, is probably in most collections.

I find that opinion interesting. I'm not saying that everyone should own LotR and I can certainly understand seeing it and not liking it. But these are some of the most loved and respected films in recent history. Aren't you even a little curious?
