"Pull Tabs, Twist & Discard"

So I bought one of those DVDs today that have the two annoying little tabs that you have to pull up before you can open the case. The kind that Wal-Mart always uses now (though this DVD was purchased as Circuit City, so I guess it's becoming more popular).

Anyway, the security seal on the side was red and it contained the following directions: "To open, remove seal, pull tabs, twist & discard." I had never considered doing this before. The tabs are actually made so that they're easy to pull off, and then the DVD case opens just like a normal one. Now I have to go through all my other DVDs and find the cases that have the tabs so that I can pull them off.

Am I the only one who hadn't considered trying this before, and hated having to open the tabs every time I wanted to get the DVD out?

I like the tabs and I don't pull them off.

It's particularly handy for when I post out used DVDs to buyers. Saves me having to put a bit of tape across the box to stop it opening in transit.

the covers thread has jumped into this....and wal mart has no say in it...its the studios who have started using them....it helps detour shoplifters from just slicing open the shrink wrap and sliding the disc out.

I love them. One more wall for a thief to get through.

Same here....I like the tabs, or at least, don't mind them at all. I leave them be.

I just opened and watched my copy of Mary Poppins this evening and noticed this red security sticker. I left the tabs in place, many of my DVDs from Focus Features have these and I like them. The Focus Features DVDs didn't have the sticker saything they should be removed so I had no idea that was the intent.

I usually just break them off right away. I never noticed that it actually tells you to do that though.

I leave them on. I don't want holes in my cases.

Paramount DVDs usually have that red sticker.

I actually think they're cool, so I never even considered tearing them off.

I just leave them on the case. They don't bother me, and it's not a lot more work to flip them out to open the case.

Kind of neat to do in that adds a little ritual to the experience.

I don't really care for them, but I leave them on. I guess it's the "completist" in me.

Yep, I was in the exact same boat. Hated the damn things, didn't know they twisted off until I read that note on one DVD.

I do this too.

It's amazing how hard you'll pull on the case before you remember that there are tabs on there.

Oh man you'd be surprised! Everyone I know (including myself) forget about certain DVD's having tabs. One time, my own mother returned our copy of Collateral to BestBuy and yelled at them for ten minutes straight before the clerk could tell her to unlock the tabs
