http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articl...advdsales.html
2004 was the 1st year that DVD Sales went down. 2002 - 17,089,823 2003 - 21,994,389 2004 - 19,999,913 Sales for Jan 2005 looks to be about the same as Jan 2001/2002. A total of 85,713,040 DVD players have been sold in the USA. |
Not unexpected... DVD has officially hit it's peak. It was bound to happen at some point.
|
Everyone has a DVD player already (I got 6 of them!). There's only so many people in the world.

DVD isn't peaked, it's just that everybody already has a player at this point. I bet DVD *disc* sales are still increasing every year.
|
Simply approaching market saturation. Pretty much everyone that wants one has one by now.

If we're at 90 million DVD players in the USA, then it means that there's probably about one in every home on average. Even if lots of people are sitting on multiple players, that's still a pretty decent saturation. You know, not everyone is going to want to have a player. The real test for he medium is in DVD software sales. |

it has been said already, but pretty much, everyone who was in the market of getting one has gotten one or more already.
Now it's just the time to lower the prices and folks can no upgrade to better players and so forth. |
I get tired of hearing about sales being down for whatever it may be out there. I live near Detroit, so of course I always hear about auto sales being down.. Then there's stores complaining over Christmas about not making as much money as expected. Boo friggin' hoo. The country is recovering financially right now, we're in a war, and as pointed out numerous times, I'm sure people are set with what they have at this point in time. But no, the industries have to go crying to the media- the world is coming to an end, people aren't spending as much money on our products anymore!!
|
Jesus, how many freakin' players do you all need? 7? 9? How many TVs do you have? or unless you have those little portable thingies.
We've got 2 and my DVD-ROM player on my PC and that's it. |
i guess technically i have four: living room, one in my office, a portable one for road trips, and my laptop: though i've never watched on on that.

Yeah! You go get em! |
I have my main player, a portable one and my laptop has one as well. Having more than 5 dvd players is just plain crazy. :D
|
Since there are approximately 100,000,000 homes in the U.S. with a VCR, 70,000,000 DVD players in U.S. doesn't mean the market is "saturated." Why 70,000,000 rather than the official 85,713,040? Simple. The 2,000,000 Laserdisc households have gone through at least 3 players by now, some people have purchased 5 or more players and returns on the early defective models, probably in the millions, are not reflected in the sales stats!
That's one to chew on! :) |
Ahhhhh!!!! Blu-ray is coming!!!! thje sky is falling !! SEll your DVDS nOW !

We've got 2 and my DVD-ROM player on my PC and that's it. Unless they have 5 kids who have one in their own bedroom, otherwise more than 3 is nuts!!!!!!!! |
