Seven Samurai
Hidden Fortress
Touch of Evil
The Maltese Falcon
Lost Horizon
King Kong
North by Northwest
The Searchers
There's a lot of stuff that came out before 1960.

This is a pretty broad question...it's almost like asking a friend, "So, Johnny...The Universe...any thoughts?"
Having said this, you could hardly go wrong with any of the following (and I know some of them aren't exactly "classics", but they're fun nonetheless)
D.O.A
Wages Of Fear
Aventurera
Black Sunday
The Big Clock
Warners Film Noir Collection Volume 1
Anything featuring Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi

Film Fan at Sea posted a really good list. Pretty much everything I was thinking of is already in his post. Some stuff he skipped:

M. Houlot's Holiday
Fantasia
Pinnochio
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
It's a Wonderful Life
His Girl Friday
Nosferatu
Bride of Frankenstein

Why 1960 ???
I think 1960 is an odd cutoff date, nothing really major happened that year in film
styles or technologies. Pre-1953 would make more sense because 1953 was the transitional year from 4x3 ( AR= 1.33:1) to widescreen formats (AR=1.66:1 or greater) and to me, 4x3 are the "old" films, widescreen are the "new" ones. There are TONS of great pre-1953 films though, "old"
does not mean worse.
Another key date would be 1968 in both movies AND music. That was the year movies went to ALL IN COLOR ( there have been a very few exceptions since then of course)
and in an unrelated topic, that was the last year that MONO music LP records were issued. KEY date.... And it goes without saying that there are tons of great B&W films and mono music recordings on LP that are pre-1968.

These are all good answers, but as some already pointed out, the correct answer is Casablanca.
Incidentally, it's also the best movie from any time period on DVD.
