I cant remember how many times i watched this movie as a kid. My brother, sister and i each had a movie we would watch over and over again. With my brother it was Top Gun, my sister Pretty in Pink and me The Wizard. Ill be getting this asap.
Oh, and i had such a crush on that red head when i was a kid, F*cking Fred Savage, i used to hate his ass. He got that Red Head and Winnie Cooper!!!! :(

This is finally coming to DVD. It's good for Nintendo nostalgia, and a kind of sad family subplot. The road scenes and musical score, remind me of Rain Man.

Ispep Aloc 05-30-06 05:25 PM

Universal has revealed a screen shot of the menu system. I've updated the Wizard page on dvdnn.com to show it. It will clearly be movie only, but still worth picking up for nostalgic value.

DVDFreaker 05-30-06 05:39 PM

I wish they would add extras but oh well but widescreen is enough for me

DeanoBKN 05-30-06 05:46 PM

Heh, this is so budget there isn't even a scene selection option. Oh well, at least it's widescreen.

Caaalllliiiifoooorrrrnnniiiaa....8/29 can't get here soon enough.

pinata242 05-30-06 06:08 PM

Maybe there'll be an Easter Egg by doing Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, 1, 2, Play... I know Konami has nothing do to with this movie, but a guy can dream, right? Come to think of it, TMNT was in the movie. Any other Konami games?

steebo777 05-31-06 07:17 AM

I will own thiis no matter what, unless the frame gets cropped, which I highly doubt.

Hmm, TMNT on the NES, TMNT on the PlayChoice-10, Haley mentions Simon's Quest to the game counselor, Contra on the PlayChoice 10..

Scott27 06-05-06 10:48 PM

According to DavisDVD, this has been moved up a week to 8/22.

asianxcore 06-06-06 12:23 AM

I love this movie so much that I would even buy it in full screen if that's all that's availiable. (of course I would prefer widescreen.) I'd even buy it if it was in black and white, VHS quality, or in German. (Oh wait I already did buy the German version).

JP5683 06-08-06 03:11 AM

Since I don't have any new info on the DVD, here's a recent pic of the lovely Ms. Lewis.

can't wait. woohoo.

RagingBull80 08-22-06 10:58 PM

Found one copy at Borders today and snatched it up. So if you have a Borders near you, it's worth a check.

marcellusk 08-22-06 11:23 PM

got mine today from ddd. i didn't see this in best buy or walmart today. Shame because this was pretty good

Novasonic 08-23-06 01:05 AM

At first I thought they didn't have it in walmart either, but you just have to look. I bet even your walmart had it. Anyway it was $9.82 at mine. So, I'm happy now.

freshticles 08-23-06 02:47 AM

I went to 2 walmarts, 2 future shops, superstore, zellers, HMV, and blockbuster looking for this today...nothing...anybody in Canada find a copy?

Amazon.ca indicates that it has the movie on stock but even then is a 5 to 7 week shipping. I don't know why is so hard to find this movie in Canada.

Harold Wazzu 08-23-06 08:20 AM

Went to my walmart during lunch yesterday and found it for $9 + change. I had forgotten that it was coming out...

fliggil 08-23-06 08:34 AM

Couldn't find a copy locally, just gave up after 4 different chains and ordered one of DDD. Frusturating, but it will be worth it.

Harold Wazzu 08-23-06 10:02 PM

I just watched my copy, and even though I only have a 27" TV in 16:9 squeeze mode, I think it looked pretty good and the audio is more than adequate. I'm happy this finally got a dvd release.

thursdaynighter 08-24-06 01:18 AM

Can't wait for this one, only have seen chunks of it on cable here and there...will be nice to sit down for a whole viewing.

DiedLaughing 08-24-06 10:36 AM

I picked this up at Walmart at midnight last night... the store where I work hasn't gotten it in stock yet due to an assumed release date mix up.

fleegs 08-24-06 12:34 PM

Also picked it up from Walmart. I forgot it was coming out and ran across it today.

Breakfast with Girls 08-24-06 03:05 PM

Also picked it up from Wal-Mart.

freshticles 08-24-06 04:14 PM

BAH to all of you...

Big Dave 08-24-06 04:53 PM

Got mine at Wal-Mart as well, will watch it tonight. Makes me feel old to realize that the movie is 17 (!!!) years old.

Cameron 08-24-06 05:01 PM

how much at wal mart?

DeanoBKN 08-24-06 06:12 PM

I checked my job (Coconuts), Circuit City, Best Buy, Tower Records, and Target...none of which had it in stock. I guess WalMart will be my last resort before ordering it online.

Cameron 08-25-06 12:07 AM

got it at wal mart as well....

noticed something funny...Tobey Maguire at Video Armageddon. Right after they choose the three kids for the finals. They walk outside and Lucas points the gang out...all the way to the left, the kid with the mullet and pink shirt.

he isn't credited...but imdb puts him as "Lucas' goon at video armageddon"

someone screencap this

Puzznic 08-25-06 02:33 AM

I was pretty impressed with the video on this. Maybe I am just used to my washed out VHS copy of this but I can't imagine the DVD looking much better than it does. The rest of the DVD is pretty sparse (not even a scene selection) but I'm not complaining.

JP5683 08-25-06 03:26 AM

Ordered it from DDD assuming it would be hard to find, hasn't come in yet though, I ordered it like 2 weeks ago.

Looking forward to upgrading from my VHS and bootleg dvd...

Lastdaysofrain 08-25-06 07:53 AM

Mine shipped from DDD at the start of the week. I should have it soon.

I noticed one of the kids looked familiar, did not place it as Maguire at the time.

After watching it last night is stands up pretty decent and like others have said, the picture looked better then I might have expected.

dpz301 08-25-06 03:27 PM

walmart didnt have it, guess i am going on DDD to get it. woohoo.

I agree.

It's about $9.50 at Wal-Mart, by the way.

Now I have Flight of the Navigator, The Last Starfighter, and The Wizard (and, I'm sure, a few others that don't come to mind). Any other quintessential '80s family-friendly movies I'm missing?
