Now to decide whether to hold onto my copy of Rebel Without A Cause or not. I'm sure all the extras will be on the new one, so I guess I might as well.

This set was originally to include "James Dean: Forever Young" a new documentary that will screen at Cannes, but I just got confimation that it will no longer be included for whatever reason ....

"The documentary is definitely not part of the DVD box set. When the documentary is released it will be available on the website"

This comes from someone from jamesdeanfest.com. Originally the site had the documentary listed as being part of the box set and then I noticed the information was pulled so I wrote them and asked what was up.

Awwww well. I am sure the Reble 2-discer will have some kind of doc on Dean. Warner has been great at providing feature length docs on their SE discs.

Extras will include an audio commentary by Douglas L. Rathgeb (Author of The Making of Rebel Without a Cause), an all new Rebel Without a Cause: Defiant Innocents documentary, a James Dean Remembered documentary, 3 behind the cameras segments from the Warner Bros. Presents TV Series including the “Drive Safely” public service announcement, screen test footage, wardrobe test footage, deleted scenes (without sound) and the films theatrical trailer.

Does anyone know if the set is going to have a bonus disc that is only available by buying the box set? The high price makes me wonder about this.

They had previous engagements. Nick Adams and Sal Mineo will be providing commentary instead.

Ok, but I'm getting the recliner. You'll have to use the sofa.

Came across something interesting concerning the rating of Rebel Without a Cause at http://www.filmratings.com.

Rebel Without A Cause (2005)
Warner Bros. Pictures Inc.
PG-13 Rated PG-13 for some violence and thematic elements.

This happens every so often where an older film will get a wacky rating. Maybe Rebel's is valid but the Big Sleep's R rating is rather silly compared to what gets R ratings nowadays.

Wow, awesome. I've held Rebel Without a Cause and Giant in my hands many-a-time, but always found something better to purchase (by better, I mean used and, therefore, cheaper). This is a set with three great titles, and I'll be able to pick it up without one double-dip. Can't wait!

The "thematic elements" obviously refers to the homosexual crush of Sal Mineo's "Plato" for James Dean's "Jim". Given the current environment, the film would probably get an NC-17 if released today ....

Maybe the stand alone re-release will but, if the Classic Comedies set is any indication, Warner won't include the keep case (and I believe you mean the slipcover-esq package like Bringing Up Baby).

Is Giant Anamorphic Widescreen? I don't think the disc that's already out is.

The Giant included in the set does come in a keepcase. But it is not anamorphic, alas.

That's utterly retarded.

I may just pick up Rebel Without A Cause and East Of Eden, but who knows. I'll probably cave.
