What do you think -- could it possibly be LOST HIGHWAY? Please, let it be so...
Considering I recently purchased the R2 Lost Highway Two-Disc Special Edition, normally I would say bank on it. However, since it is Subversive Cinema releasing it, I would say were looking at something more along the lines of one or more of his experimental films.

Universal owns the rights to Lost Highway in R1.

Not likely, but it's possible the rights were purchased from the studio. I agree, Universal probably still owns the rights to Lost Highway. But, you never know.

I hope this is the one that get's released on that street date.

Great news, indeed!

About freakin' time, Universal! Lynch's filmography is now entirely available on DVD. Shocked, however, that this was the last of his films to make it on disc here.

HD-DVD release, pretty please?

chris_sc77 12-11-07 10:59 AM

How did Universal get distribution rights to this. Wasn't this a New LIne property in the states.

islandclaws 12-11-07 11:35 AM

I literally JUST bought the 2-disc UK edition last night at Amoeba. Fuck. Oh well, at least mine has different extras and a DTS track. I'll probably only bite on this one if Uni gives it an HD release. Ohhh, that would be sweet.

Well, we're still missing INDUSTRIAL SYMPHONY NO. 1, HOTEL ROOM, and ON THE AIR - all of which received VHS releases. They're not feature films, of course, but there is still some Lynch out there that needs a DVD release.

LMAO .. that kills me. Finally you guys get a DVD release in R1 after 10 years and now you want HD!!! Ha ... that made my day...

Anyway, nice to see it's getting an anamorphic release but I'd be curious if that just means everyone will get to see the film grain/scratches/destruction better. This one could easily use a remastering as the print on any other release is less than ideal.

I have the mk2 France and I'll stick with that until some reviews are up.

Since it is a Universal release, and Universal releases HD-DVDs, it is not out of the question to see a day&date DVD and HD-DVD release. It's not like Zen said "Release it now or I'll never buy form you again Universal!". He asked nicely :)

Oh I hear you. Nothing is out of the question these days.

What is funny is the simple fact that people have been going on about getting a proper release of this film for years and now they get one .. and well, it's no longer considered proper due to the HD market. Always one step behind.

Though to be honest, I don't think this film will benefit from an HD release until the prints are cleaned up. And I just don't see Universal throwing a lot of money into that barrel. Hey, who knows ..

The film was distributed by October Films, an independent distributor, that was purchased by Universal in 1997 when "Lost Highway" was released. Then in 1999, October was sold again, merged with Gramercy Pictures and re-named "USA Films". Then Universal acquired "USA Films" and renamed it "Focus Features".

Given all those changes with the distributor, that's why this dvd has taken so long to be released. Many films in October's catalogue are still unreleased on DVD, such as Life is Sweet, Ruby in Paradise, The Idiots.

Finally, I basically lost all hope.

dvd_luver 12-11-07 02:31 PM

Finally, glad to see this is getting a region 1 DVD release. Thanks Universal for taking your sweet time getting this released. I am excited to own this on R1 DVD finally.

dvd_luver 12-11-07 02:55 PM

I started a thread for it since it's a new release, so you can discuss in here or there.
