You guys like messing about.

Lost Highway is on sale (for over 5 years!) at Amazon.de for 9.90 euros (US$13). I know shipping is expensive but you could buy a load and sell them on or shove Downfall (2 disc version) in your basket to ease the pain of the high shipping.

I don't believe any real fan of Lost Highway can wait and wait and wait.

Richard Malloy 04-26-05 01:07 PM

Daniel, I don't think you understand what we're asking...

The original release that came out in 2000 costs 19.99 euros, and the new release that came out earlier this month is 9.90 euros (see links above). Hence the question: any difference between the two?

10 euros?

The technical information (maybe no 5min interview) is exactly the same:

• Sprachen: Deutsch (Dolby Digital 5.1) Englisch (Dolby Digital 5.1)
• Untertitel: Deutsch, Englisch
• Bildformat: 16:9, 2.35:1
• Dolby, Surround Sound, PAL

Das ist es.

Doesn't really look like a review to me, but it said this (translated with Altavista):

Beautiful Digipack with film review from the South German newspaper and a short Making OF... as well as szenenbildern and short information to the film
so I think it sounds similar to the expensive release for extra features.

JLyon1515 04-27-05 09:32 AM

Well, Lost Highway is my favorite Lynch film. And I'll wait for the DVD with teh approved Lynch transfer (that he's already done).

I'm a fan, and I can wait and wait. :)

yes that too....i've never even seen that one :(

AeroStone 04-29-05 05:21 PM

I'm a fan of Lost Highway as well, but I aint interested in getting an open region player. There just arent that many movies in other regions that arent already in R1 that interest me...LH will come to R1 in due time..until then, I have:

Blue Velvet
Mulholland Drive
Firewalk With Me
Wild at Heart

to warp my wittle mind.... :nopanic:

Heliosphann 04-29-05 08:09 PM

I have the original LOST HIGHWAY DVD release (in the uber-retarded Super Jewel case that broke somewhere over the Atlantic) and the English Audio IS out of sync...

In a weird way it actually kinda makes the film more creepy. :)

auto 10-06-05 10:51 AM

Sorry, no Region 1 news but it looks like Region 2 is getting a nice new version of Lost Highway:

Lost Highway Region 2 Final Specs from MK2 and No Industrial Symphony

It appears that MK2 has released the final Specs for the Lost Highway DVD. Although Industrial Symphony was dropped from the release specs, this DVD will be the best that Lost Highway has ever looked or sounded. Apparently there were some problems securing the rights to Industrial Symphony. Along with a new HD Transfer of the film and the original 5.1 mix transfered in DTS, below are the details on the 2nd bonus materials disc from dvdrama.com:

New interview with David Lynch from 2005 (16 mn)
Making-of (10 mn)
Interview with David Lynch when the movie came out (5 mn)
Interview with Bill Pullman (4 mn)
Interview with Patricia Arquette (4 mn)
Interview with Robert Loggia (3 mn)
EPK (Electronic Press Kit) (7 mn)
Trailer (3 mn)
Booklet

The release will also come with a limited edition hologram cover.

Can the Region 1 be far behind? Probably. :(

kms_md 10-06-05 11:28 AM

on a related note, david foster wallace wrote an interesting article which was originally published in esquire and subsequently published in his essay collection "a supposedly fun thing i'll never do again". this is a pretty entertaining read about dl in general and the filming of lost highway specifically.

bis22 10-06-05 01:02 PM

Is this new edition still PAL?

heavy liquid 10-06-05 02:32 PM

Damn. I am so buying that. When is the release date?

I'd say the chances of that is about 100%.

scarredgod 10-06-05 03:04 PM

that sucks that Industrial Symphony No.1 couldnt be included too.

It makes absolutely no sense for IS#1 to be included with Lost Highway. None. Wild at Heart, I can see the logic why it might have been included with it because Cage and Dern are in IS#1, but why on earth would a studio thing "Hey, lets release this completely unrelated with with Lost Highway!?"

Don't get me wrong, it'll be cool if/when IS#1 finally comes to DVD, I just can't see why a marketing department would ever release it with an unrelated feature.

auto 10-07-05 09:49 AM

Let's just hope that IS#1 makes it to DVD in some form.

Let's just hope that a new edition of Lost Highway comes to Region 1.

Would it be woth waiting for this to happen or is it worth picking up this Region 2 version??

Egon's Ghost 10-07-05 02:00 PM

No forced French subs, right? What about in the bonus features?

pro-bassoonist 10-07-05 02:38 PM

Not only the subs will not be forced but this will be a print that Marin Karmitz and Co. have restored frame-by-frame. The fact that this will be a Hi-Def-sourced print of the film also should appeal to quite a few. With this said, Yes this should be the version to get as MK2 are easily one of the few studios to outperform Criterion when it comes to "classic" films.
Some specs here:

bunkaroo 10-07-05 03:14 PM

Never was a big fan, but I have to thank the film and Lynch for turning me on to Rammstein-one of my favorite bands ever!

i dont care if it makes no sense. the fact that they wanted to include it, but ultimately couldnt, sucks.

Absolutely!!...you can add Wild Side and the Eureka (Masters Of Cinema) labels to that list also.

OldBoy 02-25-06 06:13 PM

is there any news of an R1 release in the near future?

gutwrencher 02-25-06 06:55 PM

A bit off-topic....and maybe I'm blind...but this looked fucking awesome in HD-Lite on UHD last night. I archived it!

salamander2 02-25-06 07:57 PM

Maybe lynch will put it out himself?

You mean an R1 Widescreen release. There's already an R1 P&S release.

I'd pick up the WS version, probably. VERY strange movie, but worth a revisit.

Not possible. He doesn't own the rights to it.

dvd_luver 02-26-06 11:01 AM

I wish I could say this has a release date in the USA, but I can't. Fans patience has been tested, thank god for the other regions this has been released in. This needs to be released, a must own film for any Lynch fan or dvd collector.

Don't have HD-lite. I would love to see this and appreciate in Hi-Definition. I bet it would knock me off my seat, it would look that sweet.

LOST HIGHWAY aired on the Universal High Definition channel this past week and it looked great. Original aspect ratio. Picture was gorgeous. Hopefully the DVD won't be too far off.

Drool, drool...Someone posted here a while back that Lynch actually has finished supervising a transfer of this, and the only thing holding up is rights.

al_tag 02-28-06 06:24 PM

Great soundtrack to this movie. Smashing Pumpkins, NIN, Manson, etc...

Me to, I own region 2 & 4, but I want a Lynch approved region 1 dvd.

Count_Zero 03-02-06 12:55 PM

Subversive Cinema will be releasing a new Lynch DVD, according to Fangoria.com:

...Arriving July 25 is a new and special David Lynch DVD; no other details are currently available about this one."

What do you think -- could it possibly be LOST HIGHWAY? Please, let it be so... :)
