Kids in the Hall Brain Candy
I have been reading this forum for a few months and finally decided to join.
Does any one know if the Kids in the Hall movie Brain Candy is going to be re-released anytime soon? I can't find a copy locally so I am thinking of ordering from DvdEmpire, but I don't want to have to double dip.
If anyone owns the current R1 version, how is the picture/sound quality and extras??

The sound and video quality is good. The extras are non-existant. Here are some reviews from this site:

DVD Talk Special Edition
I doubt brain candy will be re-released anytime soon so I would go ahead and pick it up. I've watched my copy many times since it was released...Picture quality and sound are fine for the type of movie it is.

It's not likely that a new special edition will appear any time soon, since the Kids have more or less disowned the film. Paramount has always been less than enthusiatic about it as well, starting with the theatrical release.
It's a shame too, because while it's not their best effort, Brain Candy is still a very funny film.

The version out on DVD has been edited down from what the Kids wanted released. There is a full version that hopefully will one day get released. There are apparently some VHS copies of the full version out there.

Thanks, I'll be sure to pick it up. Too bad it'll probably never get the special edition treatment, much like what I hear about Private Parts, iirc thats a paramount movie too, no? what does Paramount have against these people??? :-)

Arg, I waited too long and now I can't find this anywhere. Any news on a re-release?

The kids in the hall have not disowned this movie, they have stated that they hate paramount for the way they mis-treated the movie they have also said that one day they hope to make another movie, just not for paramount.

A few years ago I asked Kevin and Dave if we'd ever see 'Brain Candy 2': they just laughed their asses off - saying I was probably the only one who was hoping for it and pretty much said 'never'
Saw them live a few weeks ago and it was great, I doubt we'll see a rerelease of this though, it's just not one of those titles that has a large enough fan base.

Paramount discontinued a ton of dvds a few months back (I counted at least 100 individual titles). A few of them were obvious double feature pairings (2 Albert Brooks films, 2 Steve Martin films, 2 Paul Newman films, etc).
Lionsgate is supposeably re-releasing them soon. There are listings on Amazon for about 12 DF's so far, including Brain Candy / Back To The Beach......(what those two films have in common is anyone's guess).
No firm release dates yet. My guess is that Walmart has some sort of exclusive window on them, because that's where I picked up:
Nobody’s Fool / Fat Man & Little Boy
Relic / Pet Sematary 2
My Bloody Valentine / April Fools Day (7.50 each)
I would expect the others to show up soon enough.
I would also expect ALL studios to begin repackaging most of their catalogs in double and triple feature sets.
edited to add: I just checked Amazon and they actually had (1) copy of Brain Candy / Back To The Beach, for 11.99.....so keep checking

I have no idea why anyone would pair theses movies together, other than both being comedies (and I use that for Back to the Beach loosely) I can't see two movies farther apart.

Back to the Beach is terrific! It's got Pee Wee Herman in it, singing Surfin' Bird! Maybe it's not for everyone.
But paired with Brain Candy...? Two great tastes that go kinda odd together.
