I agree, I think I paid 80-90 for the first season when it came out but stopped after that. I've picked up Seasons 6,7,8 from Half when they had been out for a few months and were like $35-45 but I'm hoping they drop again...keeping an eye on used as well. It was easy to keep buying Buffy & Angel because they were like $35 w/ STL on amazon.

Forget the mythology. What I'd like to see is a set of the show's most comedic episodes: Jose Chung's From Outer Space, Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, etc. Those are the episodes I like to watch most.

I'm sort of in the same boat. The asking price is just way too much.
If X-Files had been a better series, maybe, but the longer it ran, the more pointless and lifeless it became. Im also not sure how well it holds up... I've caught the odd episode on TNT, and it just doesn't seem as good as I remember it being.
But there's the "collector" part of me that would like to have all nine seasons, but the practical part wins out telling me not to waste so much money on it. If they lowered the MSRP down to $60 and re-released the whole thing in slim cases (like Millennium and Firefly) then I'd probably go for it.

tvshowsondvd is reporting smaller sets for those that want to get in but don't want the pay for the pricy sets. A 16 episode mini set containing only the big mythology episodes from the first 3 seasons. Could be interesting. But looking at this, it seems they are content with the pricing of the seasons.

For the past couple years, I've been attempting to collect all of the season sets of, "The X-Files" (my favourite show) on DVD. So far, I've only got seasons 1-4, which I think is pretty good, considering the price of the sets ($119.99 Canadian). Stupidly, right before the price drop and the sale on Fox Season 1 DVDs (I had no idea about either of these), I ordered the first season. It came to $170 which was insane, but I thought that set was going OOP, because I hadn't seen it anywhere. It was a birthday present, anyways. But, the other three seasons that I have, I bought at a used CD/DVD store, and got them all for $91.99 each. I'm going to try to do that with the other seasons, or just spend entire paychecks on them, once I find another job. If I could only get five more DVDs, they would be the remaining five season sets I need.

I always ordered my set from TotalActionUniverse.com in Canada so that way the currency difference made each set about 70.00. Sure it was still a high price but they are also my most prized DVDs. All other sets are on shelves but my X-Files sets are kept in my audio cabinet behind glass to protect them.
I could of waited for a better price but with them coming out every 6 months it was easy to put a little money away here and there so that I had enough cash by the time each set came out. If I had waited till now to get them it would of been harder for me to drop all the cash all at once.

Surprisingly I've found the best deals on ebay. I bought seasons 1-6 sealed from a seller on there for $190. I manged to get 7-9 for about $35 as well, all new. You just have to bide your time with these sets. "The deals are out there."

the high $$$ prices are exactly what's keeping me awayfrom X-Files as well as Star Trek DVD sets.
Is it just me or are sci-fi/genre TV shows delierately overpriced??
