"Out"-serts...

Sometimes releases come with a page on the back that has information as to what is on the disc(s). Does anyone else try to hang on to it, or do you just toss it with the rest of the wrapping?

Most of the time, I like the information that is on the back and will try to hang on to it to use to remind me what is on the release. But I haven't come up with a perfect way of keeping it. They usually come gummied on, and I try to keep it, but then after alot of use, it loses the stickiness. Then I move it to the inside of the case. Some discs I have kept it on for example:

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (SE)
The Simpsons box sets
The Godfather Collection
Memento (SE)
X-Files Season sets

Just wondering if I'm the only one that does this...

TomOpus 01-19-05 06:23 PM

Some I keep, some get tossed.

natevines 01-19-05 06:24 PM

No, my rule: if it's attached by that nasty gum, toss it :)

cultshock 01-19-05 06:32 PM

I'm a completist, I try to keep everything that was included (except the shrink wrap and security stickers ;) ). That gum stuff usually comes off kinda easily. I keep everything, even any advertising inserts.

eiker_ir 01-19-05 06:37 PM

yeah i like too keep all the stuff that dvds come with, i usually folde these little pages you mention and put them inside the case.

matome 01-19-05 06:38 PM

I usually keep everything that comes with the DVD as well, though I may throw out the ad inserts if I'm not too lazy.

yep...all depends.

fumanstan 01-19-05 06:58 PM

I've kept all mine in the case.

chileorgullo 01-19-05 07:01 PM

you definetly have to keep it on the simpson sets, it lists all the episodes, my predator one has gotten real grimey, thinking of pitching it

naitram 01-19-05 07:12 PM

Ya I keep them, preferably on the DVD. But I used to keep the stickers that came on the front of Criterions, too. ;)

Then I realized that life is just too damn short for that nonsense. -screwy-

That's what I mean, I like having the info on the back. But then underneath you have some artwork maybe a purist would rather look at. It's really all a matter of preference. It is an interesting choice the studios gave us.

To say the least. It's certainly a philosophically profound question.

Chock up another vote for carefully removing them and then keeping them in the case (after making sure I get rid of all the "gummy" stuff).

ENDContra 01-19-05 09:03 PM

Im keep them inside the case, because if you keep them on the outside, they will eventually get really bad looking.

I also save the stickers that come on the outside of the plastic wrap...I only save the ones related to the DVD itself, not any of the "Low Price!" or "Buy 3 Get 1 Free!" stickers. If I can get it off the plastic with some glue left, Ill stick it to a clear place inside the case...otherwise Ill cut around the sticker and just lodge it under the insert tabs. Yes I really am an anal completist.

I keep them attached because I kep the shrink wrap on titles like that. I just slice around the are where you can slide the DVD case out and keep the shrinkwrap around the rest of it. Plus, a lot of times, that piece of paper has the UPC code on it and it's easier to sell/trade if you no longer want it.

There was another thread on keeping your shrinkwrap on your DVDs a few weeks ago.

The First few that came like this (like the first 3 Buffy seasons), I pulled it off, but I put it in the pocket that houses the booklet... lately I've just taped them back onto the box, and been carefull with them.

Glad to know there's someone out there as insane as I am. (I do the cutting method myself.) I first started doing this with CDs years ago -- in the post-longbox era, of course -- and carried over doing it with DVDs. Like you said, just the ones that have to do with the DVD itself, not price stickers or whatever...

Fold them and put them in the case.

I tossed the The Good, The Bad & The Ugly one though. Bastard thing went and pulled on the outer paper. Eli Wallach's face is now printed on a big bulge.

roger_d 01-20-05 06:22 AM

I keep it

FatTony 01-20-05 06:47 AM

I always toss them. They're a bit of a nuisance, if you ask me.

reverie 01-20-05 07:04 AM

Put me in the slightly annoyed at them, but keep them anyway camp. I usually just leave them on the case, and in the instances such as LOTR EE where they weren't even attached, they're essentially just draped over the back of them on the shelves.

Ditto.

ShagMan 01-20-05 08:43 AM

I keep mine, fold it in 1/2, and put it inside the case.

chileorgullo 01-20-05 10:00 AM

yes but wouldn't it just be better if it were printed on instead of glued?

Tarantino 01-20-05 12:00 PM

I toss them. They serve no purpose. Then again, I'm the guy who couldn't care less if a DVD has an insert or not.
