Cop Land director's cut....it's worth the difference.
Just finished watching the director's cut DVD. I always liked this movie, the cast alone makes it worth seeing. But the original version fell short from being great.
I won't bother with a full report on the new director's cut DVD since it's been well covered here:

I'm in full agreement with that review. I hate double dipping and was hesitant to go a second time with this title, but I'm really glad I did.The new cut is a vast improvement. I'd say whatever you thought of the theatrical version, add another star and a half to this version. The editing is tighter, the story and character development is better, practically everyone in the cast gets a better showing, it's almost a new movie.

I bought it on release day (cause of Stallone and anamorphic transfer) and I was shocked on the difference of the new cut. Granted it was the first time for me to see it in a couple of years, but it definitely seemed tighter and better paced. I think it is a grossly underrated movie.

Hey, thanks for the note. I've been wanting to upgrade my copy of this, mainly for the anamorphic transfer, but had wondered how different this edit was. I think my Wal-Mart has it for $14.44, which isn't too bad.
Yes, an excellent movie, IMHO.

Haven't seen this in ages. I remember it being a stellar movie though. Might have to check it out.

I thought the theatrical cut was good, but The Director's Cut is amazing. This is one of my favorite dvds. If any of you haven't upgraded, you should. For those of you who haven't bought either version yet, buy it!

Ya know I snagged this when it first came out, but I haven't watched the whole thing yet. I just kinda skipped around to check out the pic quality, which is much better than the 1st release.

Thanks to this thread I double-dipped on this one. I always liked this movie, but, after watching the new version last night -- WOW! I loved it. The acting in this movie is top notch. I still can't believe the ensemble they got together for this. Thanks for the tip ...

Cop Land is one of my favorite movies - and I like both versions (but the Director's Cut is better).
I was very surprised that it wasn't a bigger hit at the box office with the amazing cast that it has. It has developed quite a cult following in the time since then, though. This could be one of those movies that comes out, does so-so business and doesn't have much of an impact on it's initial release, but is looked back at 20-30 years later as an absolute classic.
