Why isn't "American Hot Wax" out yet?

I recently rented the "Hollywood Knights", which was directed by the same guy who did "American Hot Wax". I have heard time and time again how the reason American Hot Wax hasn't been released is probably due to all the music that was used in the movie. I no longer buy that excuse. Hollywood Knights has got a soundtrack as loaded (if not more) with classic songs from the 50s and 60s as much as "Wax". My point being, if "Knights" got released, what are they waiting for to release "Wax"? This movie is one of the greatest Rock n Roll celebrations of alltime. Please release it!

I'm sure the holdup is due to music rights. It's not a very well known film and the rights holders probably think they won't be able to make their money back after clearing the rights to all those songs. Hollywood Knights is a much better known film featuring some major stars, including an early performance by Michelle Pfeiffer. It's much more marketable than American Hot Wax.

Having said all that, I'd buy American Hot Wax in a second.

no doubt...and it figures. that ST is LOADED with great toones.

can't believe I actually saw this twice on it's original theatrical run. just a kid....and the theater was empty both times. I'll buy it in a heartbeat. I was always a huge Alan Freed fan and it was he who flamed my passion for radio in the 80's and 90's....when I hosted a few radio shows in northern cali.

I don't know about Hollywood Knights being a better known movie than American Hot Wax. If it is, it's only because "Knights" is out on DVD while "Wax" is still in DVD limbo. As for Knights having more "major stars", I beg to differ. Sure "Knights" had Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer, but can that cast compare with Jay Leno, Fran Drescher, Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, not to mention one of the greatest rock and roll soundtracks in the history of film? I still don't understand why Hollywood Knights gets released, while American Hot Wax doesn't even get mentioned.
