This was a film that had some potential but did not really meet the expectations. I am sure that many will find it of some interest and get the dvd but I would recommend that you take a look at the original as well. An excellent film with a great price tag!!

The cover shot above is from the 1965 version.

Its actually very smart. Studios are figuring out that some movies they release are more suited for home viewing and thus do not do as well at the theater. Personally, I wanted to see this movie, but didn't get the chance to.

By releasing it soon after the theatrical run, they save some advertising dollars since the film is still fresh in our minds.

True, but the text accompanying that cover shot says: "but I would recommend that you take a look at the original as well. An excellent film with a great price tag!!"

So it's probably not a mistake.

Maybe he was hoping people who were looking for the remake would confuse the original with the remake and accidentally buy the better movie.

Why not? Laurence Oliver was in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

I guess K-Mart decided to put it on the shelves early. I saw it (the 2004 version) there for sale this morning.

Isn't there some problem with the 1965 version DVD? I heard it was cut or something.

I loved the 2004 version and in the process of checking out the original one. I will be picking up the new one on Tuesday for sure.
