I know everyone is big on the Definitive season sets (I'm forsaking my partial collection of the previous "volume" ones for them), but I have a friend that figures he has volumes 1 and 2, and would rather pick up the remaining 3 instead of selling and having to buy all 5 season sets. Volume 1 was on blowout at Target early in the year for $30, then Wal-Mart had volumes 2 and 3 for something like $40 and $45. Has anyone seen volumes 4 and 5 on blowout yet?
|
i have yet to see anyone blow out the last few releases of the old box sets. Some stores like Best buy, borders, suncoast are still selling all the old sets side by side with the new sets.
|
TVshowsondvd is reporting that season 5 will drop a day early on the monday after Xmas. Their is also a rumor listed that a complete series set is on the way same day, however no details can be found.
|
News flash: Rumor has it that Season 5 does in fact feature the brilliant "American Masters" documentary on Rod Serling....
|
^source?
|
I'm not sure what his source is, but it's probably the following post I saw yesterday at HTF:
I saw a copy of Season Five already on the shelf at a store today. Unfortunately, I'm waiting to grab it at Costco for about $30 less than the $87 that I saw it for today. Cruel fate, why do you mock me? Anyway, maybe I missed this before but did anyone know that Disc Six of the S5 set has the 'Submitted For Your Approval' special on it? I was pleasantly surprised. Since that poster obviously didn't buy the set, I'm guessing there's either a sticker on the shrinkwrap stating the special's included, or it's listed on the back of the box as an extra. |
I can confirm the presence of Submitted for Your Approval. My source: the set sitting in front of me. It's listed on the back of the box just above the Special Features and below the episode list. Seems a little out of place like maybe it was added late. Also if you look at the individual disc titles you'll see that disc six says Rod Serling Submitted for Your Approval.

^great news^

Great news. I can't confirm anything, because as usual, I still haven't even received my review copy yet.

However, the scores of Nathan Van Cleave (my second point of interest in this set) regrettably aren't fully represented ("Black Leather Jackets" and "From Agnes, With Love" aren't present; fortunately "Steel" and "A Kind of Stopwatch" are). Overall, this set has the LEAST number of isolated scores, which is unfortunate and undeniably disappointing. The commentary track by Martin Landau on "The Jeopardy Room" should be fascinating (as was his earlier commentary track for season one's "Mr. Denton on Doomsday"). The non-episode-specific extras look interesting, particularly the Serling interviews (I'll be interested to see just what the heck the Alfred Hitchcock promo is). Too bad they couldn't have secured a commentary track by William Shatner for "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet".... :D |
I just started to collect this set and was wondering why season one is the most expensive of them all? Normally after more seasons come out the 1st set price drops.

The book was only in the first release or so of Season 1 sets. Recent Season 1 sets don't contain it, alas. (But I just got the book for Christmas!)
BTW, has anyone seen Season 5 at Costco today? I was in last night (Monday) but no sight of anything new. |
^yep, if you didn't grab season one early then you missed the book.
|
I checked at CostCo on my lunch hour, and my wife checked at another CostCo, and we both came up empty. They didn't even show it in their computer system (but they did show the previous four volumes). Perhaps they'll get it late? Maybe some holiday delay?
Either way, I'm bummed. I got spoiled on the previous four, getting them on release day. I was really looking forward to completing the collection today. I'm a total geek, I know, but I was actually lying awake this morning around 1:00 a.m., too psyched up to sleep. I know I'll get it soon (hopefully very soon), but DAMN. |

Yup. I checked at Fry's Electronics, Fred Meyer, Circuit City... and yet another CostCo. The only one I didn't bother with was Best Buy, since they'll undoubtedly be charging full retail ($99.99). I bought Season 1 there for the princely sum of $103.99, and I don't want to get soaked again. I bought Season 2 through Coconuts.com, but won't do business with them again (they lured me in with some rebate scam, then stopped answering my e-mails when I asked questions about it). Seasons 3 and 4 were bought at CostCo for the amazing price of $54.99.
Given that nobody around here (Portland area) seems to have it yet, I'll probably check one more time this weekend, then again on Tuesday of next week. |

I hit Best Buy on my lunch hour today, desperate to at least see Season 5... which I did. Their price: $87.99. As much as I wanted it, I held off. I'll keep hoping that CostCo gets it in, but if I'm still without it a week from now... well, who knows how much I'll pay.
Obsessions suck sometimes. |

Obsessions suck sometimes. I know how it is though with obsessions and being impatient. I suffer from both. Drives me CRAZY!! :brickwl2: |
