This is the Definitive Version for DVD. That said, it may -- and probably will -- be released on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray at some point in the future.

Any word on who is doing the audio commentaries for this release? I know I mentioned it before, but I would love J. Michael Straczynski commentaries for the episodes he wrote.

It's probably a bit early to even be thinking about that. (Blu-Ray won't even be a consumer product for about 12 months, at the earliest. And I don't think Image has even announced any plans to release HD-DVD or Blu-Ray at all. And we don't know if anyone even has the rights to distribute TZ on another format. Etc.)

Yes, this show is likely to be released on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray at some point. (Since it's already on it's 4th or 5th standard release.) But you're probably talking several years before this happens. I guess it depends on how you're approaching this -- you can say 'wait for HD-DVD' for just about anything that comes out. Are you stopping buying standard DVDs completely now?

These sets are great so far... I'm not planning on waiting until 2012 or whenever to see if they'll put one out with improved picture quality.

Amazon has Season 3: The Definitive Edition now up for pre-order. The bad news is that MSRP is back to $119.99, compared with Season 2 at $99.99. DVD Talk link is here.

83.99 for Season 3 doesn't seem all that bad. I'm guessing Season 2's price will drop soon.
I'm going to wait it out and wait for a killer price drop on both.

Looks like Amazon is messing with the discount on this title. Discount had been 30%, now showing up as 10%. I hope it's a temporary glitch, but we may have to fire off some emails if it doesn't change back within a few weeks.

According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, the correct SRP for Season 3 is $99.99

I also saw that post at TV Shows on DVD . Several online retailers such as Amazon and DVD Planet are still showing MSRP as $119.99.
Even Deep Discount DVD which is showing $99.99 as the MSRP is selling it at a rather high $87.77. I hope the price comes down significantly by release date.

It looks like some prices are starting to change. Amazon now shows the $99.99 MSRP, but is still only giving a 10% discount. DDD has now dropped their price to $73.14. Depending on when their next 20%-off sale falls (i.e., after 6/28), this might be the clear winner.

UPDATE: It looks like DVD Planet has dropped their MSRP to $99.99 and is giving 30% off ($69.97). Since they have free shipping, I expect DDD will eventually match their price.

I talked to an Amazon CSR this morning about the 10% discount. He said he would forward my inquiry to the Marketing group so that they could investigate whether the discount should really be 30%. The only reason I'm pushing Amazon is that I have some GCs to use.

i need to bump this thread. i have a question about TZ - Definitive edition season 1. are the new printings of this set without the companion book? i just got a set from DDD and as far as i can see, there is no book included. will it be visible thru the packaging? i see 6 discs and no additional space where the book can be.

You'd be able to see it. The one with the book is in a much wider box that actually contains the book and the regular sized season 1 box.

Sounds like they stopped including the book. In that case, though, it's surprising the MSRP hasn't changed (at least according to DDD).

The book is the only reason why iI would pay more for the first set than the others. Actually the set shouldn't be much more with the book considering that the book itself doesn't sell for much these days. It would be sad if they did discontinue including the book with the first set.

I just got Season 1 (& 2 &, surprisingly, 3) at Costco today for $55.89 each. No book in the Season 1 box, and just the standard sized box. Sigh. At least I got Season 3 early!

For an old black and white show that has no kind of continuity at all, I'm not really upset I'm missing out on these. It was two or three years ago I decided based on maybe only seeing two or three episodes of this show in my life... to buy the five box sets that had the entire series in it. It took me a long time to watch the whole series, as I'd watch a couple here, a couple there. For an old black and white show, I was actually pretty satisfied with the set. The show by actual seasons would have been nice and all, but being that I already have those original sets, I can't see myself spending money on season sets now.

I wouldn't recommend this really to anybody who already owns the complete series one way or the other. If you have lots of money and it doesn't effect you in any way, then go for it if you really want to spend the money to upgrade your sets. What do I know anyways, I haven't actually seen these sets or the quality of them. But, just my two cents. I'll stick with what I have. But for anybody who doesn't already own, buy this series NOW. GREAT show.

Wonder why SAMS is selling TZ Definitive 3 for about $10 more than season 2. MSRP is the same price

actually the msrp is 119.99 for season 3 while season 2 is only 99.99

i don't understand this pricing. Season 1 was 119.99 but it had 6 disc and a book. the other sets only have 5 disc

My Sam's never carried Season 2 for some reason. I wonder if they'll have Season 3.

At least they started Closed Captioning the sets starting with Season 2 of the Definitive Edition. They also CC Seasons 2 & 3 of the 80s series. It's too bad they can't go back and do that for the 1st season of both the Definitive and 80s series. One other thing I noticed is that Season 1 of the 80s series is coded region 1 and the set for Seasons 2&3 is region 0. I wonder why they did this.
