Is there anything valuable in my collection?

By valubale, I mean worth more than the purchase price. (Obviously the Alien Quadrilogy is "valuable" ).

http://www.intervocative.com/DVDColl...fessor%20Frink

The reason I'm asking is that I'm looking to thin out a little more. I used to be over 800, but in the last year I sold a lot on ebay. I decided to keep only those titles that I would really watch over and over. But if one of my remaining titles is really valuable, I'll let it go. With 300 other titles to choose from, why keep one that's worth a fortune?

There's one that I know of already -- the Toy Story Box Set. But are there any others?

Admins -- I know there is a "rate my collection" thread, but I figured this was different.

The Mummy UE might be worth something.

I don't see anything that would sell for more than you bought it for.

I've already sold a bunch of OOPs. But I thought there might be something left.

Blues Brothers usually goes for about $40-50, but lately auctions have been ending at around $60-65, even for used ones.

The Mummy UE isnt worth much, i traded one recently for about $10.

Got alot of good titles in there though

I believe some people found the Mummy UE in the Kmart's $4.99 DVD bins recently.

I would think "Beauty and the Beast" and "Bug's Life: C.E." are both worth more than the purchase price. However, my guess would be that Beauty and the Beast will sell for far more in a year or two, unless Disney changes their mind and releases it early in HD... but that's just my personal guess. Nice collection, btw.

Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters 2, Mallrats, and Incredible Adventures of Wallace and Gromit are all OOP.

The Ghostbusters DVDs are still pretty easy to find, so you might as well hold onto them for the time being. Mallrats can fetch you a decent price (and a new SE is rumored for later this year). Wallace and Gromit is getting very hard to find and could probably net you $40 to $50.

Professor, The Blues Brothers is selling big on EBay now - I sold mine for $93.99 a couple of weeks ago. (It was sealed, though)

I am sure this question can be asked for a lot of titles, but who knows why. No SE is coming out.

The better question is:
Why is it fetching $50-100 now?
When anyone could have bought it for $9.99 when it was sitting in the front of Best Buy for that year.
I did.

$9.99
Sold for $45.00
Profit $30.01

not too bad.

I think "The Great Muppet Caper" was going for over $100 the last I saw it because of the gaff where kermit gives Miss Piggy the finger towards the end...other than that, you're pretty mainstream.

Again that can be said about a lot of titles. Supply and demand. And the key point is "could have", you can't go into Best Buy and find it anymore. Plenty of titles like that, just search Ebay for some really sought out titles.

And I got that one last year as part of a 3 for $20 at Best Buy.

What's a gaff?

I should snag my dad's Blues Brothers DVD when he's not looking then.

I am tempted to part with my copy of Blues Brothers. I have watched it several times, and wouldn't mind moving on to other parts of my collection for a while. Plus, it will be one of the first titles I would upgrade to HiDef when the time comes anyway, at which point it will be worth nil.

I love Blues Bros. too, but I couldn't pass up a profit margin like that. Besides, I have plenty of other DVDs while we ait for the eventual re-release.

I hate when people pick on people for little grammar mistakes, but...this is math dammit.

45.00 - 9.99 is 35.01.

There is a 25th Anniversary edition coming this year, so that might influence your decision.

Wasn't Fight Club pretty valuable for a while? I take it that the price has dropped since they rereleased it?

The obvious valuable DVDs are the ones that are labeled "Collector's Edition" or "Limited Edition". Those DVDs should be worth a fortune in a couple years. I just bought twelve copies of the HOOSIERS Collector's Edition DVD and eight copies of the RAY Limited Edition DVD. Im not going to unwrap them, so they should be a worthy investment...

It is rumored for August. Sure is tempting to sell it.
