What DVD released so far has highest picture quality?

I am wondering what is NOW considered the best DVD so far ( of a major motion picture) in terms of overall picture quality? I remember years ago
when "The Fifth Element" was the king but I am sure that has been eclipsed long ago. I think that Seabiscuit was outstanding on HDTV but I havent seen the DVD of that one so its just a wild guess. Thanks in Advance, the hifisapien

Shrek 2 easily springs to mind but I have a harder time trying to determine the best non-CGI PQ.

I don't think you should really consider CGI-created toons for this question. They never really existed and didn't need to be photographed. They were always digital.

Best PQ DVD of a live action film

Yes, I meant what is the best picture quality DVD of a live action film, not total CGI. I forgot to mention the Van Helsing DVD looked pretty damn good although is has some CGI.

I forgot to mention, I saw "Welcome to Mooseport" on HDTV the other day and it was simply amazing, anyone seen the DVD of that? Its got to be a contender if its a downconversion of the HD transfer.

You can't go wrong with the LOTR trilogy for PQ

Also despite all the SE enhnacements, the Star Wars Trilogy looks absolutely fantastic. The Hoth battle in Empire Strikes Back stands out for me.

Too many good guesses for a ham and egger like me to know with any certainty. I think I would have to say T3 is as good a transfer as I've seen.

I have a funny feeling that the best looking DVDs are going to be the newest transfers, no older than say 2 years. I am finding out that a lot of the early DVDs
from say 1997 to 2001 have what would now be called poor transfers. Thankfully
I didnt buy many of these but my local library still has bunch from that era and quite
a few of them are mediocre by todays standard....I might rent "welcome to mooseport" DVD just to see how well it compares with the HDTV version....I've never seen anything quite that good until now.

Good Burger.

It took almost 6 years but it was worth the wait for most DVDTalkers.

I just finished rewatching Star Wars I and Star Wars II on my HDTV and they are both unbelievably clear. The pixar movies are as good as it gets if they would count.

The same could almost be said for the two Star Wars prequels - particularly AOTC.
