demonio 12-29-04 05:19 PM

Don Coscarelli is the man !!!

Romerojpg 12-29-04 05:24 PM

I adore the film and own 2 ferrits myself :) and its always been with me thru my life and its just a great film with plenty to like.

I really enjoyed the last dvd they did, so this new documentary should be the main thing for me, just hope they interview all the stars :) esspecially a certain lady.

On the in the future page it describes it as..
THE BEASTMASTER - DIVIMAX SPECIAL EDITION (1982)

The fantasy/adventure that launched two sequels and a TV series returns to DVD in an all-new special edition. Featuring a brand-new hi-definition 16x9 transfer, this DiviMax approved DVD will include extras from the previous DVD along with new interviews with Don Coscarelli, Marc Singer, Tanya Roberts, and much more! Coming in 2005!

InnocentBlood 12-29-04 06:43 PM

i hope they include the easter eggs as well :)

Mike Lowrey 12-29-04 06:56 PM

I think this disc is only $12 on DDD. I own the TV series as well. The series is actually quite good. A bit like Hercules but with much less campiness. Much more serious plot threads and season-long arcs.

I'll probably get this SE release, just for S&G (shits and giggles).

If they don't, they can forget about me Double Dipping on this one. BTW, I hate the new cover.

masetodd 12-29-04 11:45 PM

Is the audio and video transfer the same? The last release also features anamorphic WS and DTS 6.1 sound. It also has a commentary and picutre galleries.

Why can't the new release contain EVERYTHING the previous release had, PLUS the new stuff?

Looks like I'll be renting the new one to watch the documentary. I say screw these useless "upgrades".

Ozzy's Bat Head 12-30-04 02:46 AM

I'm confused; should I seek out the older version or wait for the new? I loved the original, but I just want the best version.

More would be nice! as that footage was gobsmacking stuff! :)

I am sure the transfer will be different as it says Divimax and thats a whole new process to tranfer it to dvd so the transfer has to be new, apart from that the documentary seems the only other thing at the moment from the specs, so hopefully its more than just a new cover and transfer (which seriosuly wont look different from the old one) and a Documentary which may or may not even feature any actors.

Cool news the first release looked grainy to me at certain points in the movie, at times the grain was really bad. I will be picking this baby up!

Romerojpg 12-30-04 11:40 AM

Well the Grain may or may not be done with the Divimax process, guess we will have to wait and see as it may be just minor changes, until a review pops up we will have to wait and see :)

and is this a 2 dvd release? as I want an old style double amary, I love them :)

Geofferson 12-30-04 12:17 PM

I prefer the new cover, but I like the commentary on the old release.

ds6161 02-02-05 10:58 AM

Is the commentary new or is it the same as the 1st release??

thankz

Kimiakane 02-02-05 11:38 AM

I am still waiting for the 2nd & 3rd films (which I find charming and fun even if some others don't due to the time/dimensional travel aspects of the films) to hit DVD...any news on them?

Mike Lowrey 02-02-05 11:51 AM

^ I couldn't really give a rat's ass for the 2nd one, but from the screen shots of the 3rd from IMDb, it looks to be at least in the same light and style as the original.

Romerojpg 02-02-05 12:07 PM

The 3rd film is one of the worst things I have ever seen in my life! you will cry of you waztch it, so dont! its a patetic TV movie piece of crap! with an appauling cast!

but I got my Divimax dvd and now need to work out if its better than the old version? picture and sound wise? so a good comparison will be needed as i will watch it soon the whole beautiful dvd (pity about the crap cover! and mine was a rattler and I may send it back) :(

ShagMan 02-02-05 03:20 PM

the easter egg everybody was asking about is definitely on there :eyebrow:

Jazzbutcher 02-02-05 03:32 PM

Is that the one where Marc Singer is blind and Tanya Roberts teaches him how to drive?

man*machine 02-02-05 03:58 PM

Didn't the original release have a huge booklet enclosed as well? Is that in this new release? I have a feeling this questionable 'upgrade' just isn't worth it.

The booklet isn't included in the new edition.

obladioblada 02-02-05 06:29 PM

Kept the booklet/inserts from the 1st release and put them in the new one.

Is it still an easter egg, or is it actually on the menu?

Still an egg. You highlight a 'symbol' on the wall on the Cast Biography screen.

Re: Beastmaster Special Divimax Edition!

The big question is will they port that egg onto the new UHD release.

We are beyond excited to introduce you to Vinegar Syndrome Ultra, a new Vinegar Syndrome sub-label focused exclusively on extravagant UHD/Blu releases of ‘major’ 80s and 90s titles that might not always fit into the regular VS milieu (although the first one definitely does!).

For the first VSU release, we’re unleashing the worldwide UHD and North American Blu-ray debut of acclaimed genre filmmaker Don Coscarelli’s 1982 supernatural/fantasy/action blockbuster, THE BEASTMASTER, presented in a brand new 4K restoration, along with an exclusive, multi-part, feature length making-of documentary, 40 page bound book, and a stunning new case designed by Earl Kess.

Quote from director Don Coscarelli:
I am happy to report that Vinegar Syndrome has embarked on a meticulous restoration of my film The Beastmaster that it has always deserved. Vinegar Syndrome has done commendable legwork and tracked down a pristine printing element, a high quality Interpositive, in the Warner Bros. vaults. VS has also assembled a plethora of fascinating new supplemental materials that I cannot wait to share with fans. I am so excited that finally The Beastmaster will be released on 4k Ultra HD and Blu-ray in North America.

When he was a baby, Dar (Marc Singer, TV’s ‘V’) was cursed by an all-powerful wizard named Maax (Rip Torn, Men in Black) to prevent him from rightfully ascending as the leader of his people. But the curse left him with a unique gift: the ability to telepathically communicate with all forms of animal life. But when Maax all but wipes out his tribe leaving Dar to fend for himself, he begins a quest of vengeance, accompanied by his animal friends, to Maax and end his reign of terror and violence.

Directed by legendary genre filmmaker Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep) and co-starring Tanya Roberts (Sheena), John Amos (Coming to America), and Rod Loomis (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure), THE BEASTMASTER is a thrilling mix of fantasy, action, and adventure, with touches of horror. Photographed by Academy Award winning cinematographer John Alcott (Barry Lyndon, A Clockwork Orange) and featuring incredible production design by Conrad Angone, Vinegar Syndrome Ultra brings THE BEASTMASTER to UHD and Blu-ray in a brand new 4K restoration!

Directed by: Don Coscarelli
