I got one!!

"I found them, repeat I found them!" to quote a line from ESB or rather I got one!

So I made calls to all these Best Buy's and Suncoast's in TN. I got close with only one store saying they just sold the last one the day before I called. Then I use the next on the drop down and begin to call Suncoast's in TX. Sure enough I found a store somewhere in Somewhereville, TX and they are shipping it to my Suncoast in NY free and I will have it for MSRP!! Seeing as how they are selling for upwards of $200 on eBay i got lucky.

I am so freggin happy and can't wait to watch all the eps. in all their glory and then cherish it as part of my small, but I like it collection.

Congrats

Of course $200 is still cheaper than I ended up paying for them after the whole AU fiasco. Could have been worse though I guess...

What's the AU fiasco? Do you mind if I ask how much you did pay and was it new? I was bidding on a mint set that finally sold for $215, i expect that was good, no?
how is the set overall and do the eps. still hold up? i can't wait...

Long story short the My So-Called Life DVDs came out originally through the store Another Universe only, to get it you had to preorder it and then they decided we needed to pay up front. It came with a lunchbox to hold the DVDs and a bonus disc. The store started double billing people, and some of us lucky ones even got triple billed, some people got some of their money back, some got all, and some got none. It is a whole long story full of delays, lies, etc. Eventually I was able to get one of my extra charges refunded, but still ended up paying double, so roughly $230. I did get the lunchbox and the bonus disc eventually though.

Basically the company was ripping people off and Ross Rojek just recently ended up going to prison on unrelated charges. You can see the whole saga here at MSCL.com. There are also threads around here at DVDTalk 1 and 2

The DVDs are "ok". Menus are really crappy, quality is good enough, and there are the occasional typos. If you are a fan of the show the DVDs are worth it. There are threads over at MSCL.com that talk about the quality in depth.

thanks geoffrey.

also, would the value of the set decrease that greatly if there is a very slight tear and crease on the side of the slipcase? we are talking slight, but noticeable.

Keep checking used record stores that sell used dvds.

I just picked up the box set at CD Spins in Harvard Square in Boston for 29.99. Aside from a few rounded corners on the outter box, everything is in tip-top shape.

used stores are a blessing.

CD Spins there is really good with used box set pricing. I got "Popular" there for 24.99 used, in great condition.

I remember when this was released years ago & the Disc Jockey (music store) at our mall had it. It was retailing for like $80 or $90. I thought that was ridiculous for so few eps. Then when I recently saw how much they were getting on ebay I thought wow & I thought $80 was ridiculous.
