Disney Treasures wave 4 not 100% complete after all

from http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/...?p=94449#94449

I finally got around to checking each cartoon on the new Treasures and discovered that The Castaway version on the Mickey Mouse In Black and White Volume 2 treasures set is missing 3 seconds. I compare the DVD releases with cartoons I bought on VHS in the early to mid 1980s and from cartoons I copied from the Disney Channel during that same time.

The missing scene is just after Mickey is frightened by the spider. In my VHS copy of the cartoon, a wave is shown depositing a crate on the beach. It's just 3 seconds, but it is the same crate that Mickey backs into from fright of the spider. That same crate is shown later to contain the piano.

I had noticed that scene missing when I taped a colorized version of that cartoon short from the Disney Channel in the early 1990s. But I expected the cartoon would be complete on the Treasures set.

Obviously, there is nothing to censor about a crate being deposited on the beach by a wave. It is likely that whoever chose the film for the DVD Treasure did not know that the source film was not complete.
Maltin's answer:

Hi... apparently it is true, but for the life of me I don't know why or how this came to pass. I believe all these shorts were taken directly from 35mm masters at the Library of Congress; why one of them would have this gap while another source (used a decade ago) wouldn't is a mystery to me! cheers, Leonard Maltin
Not exactly censorship of treasures but still sucky!!

It wouldn't be a Disney thread without it. Not shocked by this. It is bound to happen with old films from time to time. At least its not as bad as the Ren and Stimpy uncut DVDs that are cut all over the place.

Three episodes is not "all over the place".

Maybe the original was the one which had 3-seconds less footage in it and the other one was a mistake.

If you want to get exact its four. Ren's Toothache, Big Baby Scam, The Cat That Laid the Golden Hairball and Stimpy's First Fart. Again it wouldn't be an issue if the word UNCUT wasn't so big on the cover.

The three seconds missing in this set is a totally different situation. At least it wasn't the original creator that put the set together.

Somewhat off topic, but yesterday I went to the 75th anniversary of the Fabulous Fox Theatre here in Atlanta. Among the other festivities was a recreation of the entertainment people would have seen on opening night, Dec. 26, 1929. They had live performances and showed a feature-length documentary about the theatre, which was preceeded by Steamboat Willie (just as it was shown on opening night 75 years ago). It was surreal watching it in an audience of thousands of people in that opulent movie palace.

$33? They're almost half that if you buy from most places on the net.

I wish they could get them right too. But since they don't at least we can have it through "alternate" means.

I have the original versions of The Castaway, Clock Cleaners, and Three Little Pigs to complement my treasures.
