The Polar Express...Christmas 2005?
I personally liked the movie, and am going to add it to my collection. is it safe to assume that this will be released around Christmas of next year(much like how they held off on Elf).

But Christmas themed movies are often held back until Christmas time to capitilize on the season. I'd imagine the DVD release of this will very much mirror that of last year's Elf.
Not to mention, with the strengh of IMAX, this thing will probably play through for a few more months on there. While I'm sure the studio wants to make their money back, they'l make more by releasing later on, and the film is now on its way to being a moderate hit taking into account theatrical distribution, so it's not like they're in a dire situation over this film.

I saw it in IMAX 3-D and it was a peak moviegoing experience. Movie was good, but attains level of greatness in IMAX 3-D. I wonder if there's any plans to release a separate version on DVD in 3-D? BTW, this had one of the better Christmas music soundtracks in recent memory. I bought the CD, and it's been playing regularly at the house for the last three weeks. I especially like Alan Silvestri's main theme.

I'd imagine it wont be released until X-Mas 05, which kind of irritates me as I'd like to have the film on DVD a lot sooner. I thought it was great, and it probably is my favorite holiday movie (I'm sorry folks, Christmas Story and It's A Wonderful Life never did it for me).
Couldn't agree more with Tarnower, I thought Silvestri's score was magical and eerie at the same time. Great film.

It's a Christmas Miracle!
Polar Express may yet recoup at least their production costs ($165 mil) after another week. It jumped back to #3 so far this week. If they can cover most of the budget, waiting til next Christmas seems more likely.
